Histochemical Preparations to Depict the Structure of Cauliflower Leaf Hydathodes.

Hydathodes are plant organs present on leaf margins of a wide range of vascular plants and are the sites of guttation. Both anatomy and physiology of hydathodes are poorly documented. We have recently reported on the anatomy of cauliflower and hydathodes and on their infection by the vascular pathogenic bacterium pv. ( Cerutti , 2017 ). Because hydathodes are natural infection routes for several pathogens, it is necessary to have a deep knowledge of their anatomy to further better interpret images of infected hydathodes. Here, we described different detailed protocols for gaining information on hydathode anatomy which are applicable to a wide range of plants (including monocots like barley and rice). Nomarsky and confocal microscopy were used to observe clarified thick samples. Optical microscopy in transmitted light and transmission electron microscopy were used to observed thin and ultrathin sections.

A naphthalimide-based fluorescent probe K1 was synthesized for selective detection of Al, Cr and Fe ions. Fluorescence emission intensity at 534 nm of probe K1 in DMSO/HO (9:1, v/v) was significantly enhanced upon addition of Al, Cr and Fe ions while addition of other metal ions (Li, Na, K, Ag, Cu, Fe, Zn, Co, Ni, Mn, Sr, Hg, Ca, Mg, Ce, Bi and Au) did not bring about substantial change in fluorescence emission.

The great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) is a generalist predator that inhabits wide-ranging territories that are relatively stable throughout the year. These owls are also involved in a variety of human-owl conflicts, including killing of domestic poultry, predating colonially nesting seabirds and shorebirds, and pose a hazard to safe aircraft operations. Managing these conflict situations presents unique challenges as great horned owls are nocturnally active and occupy a wide range of habitats.

Objective: To test whether an artificial intelligence (AI) deep neural network (DNN)-derived analysis of the 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) can distinguish patients with long QT syndrome (LQTS) from those with acquired QT prolongation.

Methods: The study cohort included all patients with genetically confirmed LQTS evaluated in the Windland Smith Rice Genetic Heart Rhythm Clinic and controls from Mayo Clinic's ECG data vault comprising more than 2.5 million patients.

Gualou-Xiebai-Banxia (GXB) decoction shows potential for treating myocardial ischemia (MI), although its underlying mechanism is not fully understood. In this study, a multimodal metabolomics approach, combining gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and H-NMR, was employed to investigate the cardioprotective effects of GXB in a rat model of myocardial ischemia induced by ligation. ELISA assays and HE staining demonstrated that GXB effectively reduced myocardial injury, oxidative stress markers, and myocardial fibrosis.
