Background & Aims: Owing to unexplained interpatient variation and treatment failure in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), novel therapeutic approaches remain an urgent clinical need. Hepatic neurons, belonging to the autonomic nervous system (ANS), mediate liver/whole body crosstalk. Pathological innervation of the ANS has been identified in cancer, nurturing tumor stroma and conferring stronger carcinogenic properties.

Article Synopsis
  • Depletion of species in the vaginal tract leads to bacterial vaginosis (BV), which is linked to poor reproductive health and higher risk of STIs; current antibiotic treatments have low success rates.
  • A study conducted in Cape Town explored blood donors' knowledge and attitudes toward vaginal microbiota transplantation (VMT) as a potential alternative treatment for BV through a questionnaire.
  • Results showed a significant majority (86%) of women were open to donating vaginal samples, with willingness increased by a belief in helping others and prior knowledge of healthy vaginal microbiomes; concerns about discomfort and embarrassment affected those unwilling to donate.

Department of General Surgery of Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Institute of Digestive Surgery, and Shanghai Key Laboratory for Gastric Neoplasms, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai 200025, China.

In multiple areas such as science, technology, and economic activities, it is necessary to unify the management of repetitive tasks or concepts by standardization to obtain the best order and high efficiency. Organoids, as living tissue models, have rapidly developed in the past decade. Organoids can be used repetitively for in vitro culture, cryopreservation, and recovery for further utilization.

Advancements in Umbilical Cord Biobanking: A Comprehensive Review of Current Trends and Future Prospects.

Stem Cells Cloning

December 2024

Molecular Medicine Department, Princess Al Jawhara Center for Molecular Medicine, Genetics, and Hereditary Diseases, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Arabian Gulf University, Manama, Bahrain.

Biobanking has emerged as a transformative concept in advancing the medical field, particularly with the exponential growth of umbilical cord (UC) biobanking in recent decades. UC blood and tissue provide a rich source of primitive hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for clinical transplantation, offering distinct advantages over alternative adult stem cell sources. However, to fully realize the therapeutic potential of UC-derived stem cells and establish a comprehensive global UC-biobanking network, it is imperative to optimize and standardize UC processing, cryopreservation methods, quality control protocols, and regulatory frameworks, alongside developing effective consent provisions.

Background: Current guidelines recommend a strategy of clinical surveillance (CS) for patients with asymptomatic severe aortic stenosis (AS) and a normal left ventricular ejection fraction.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to conduct a study-level meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effect of early aortic valve replacement (AVR) compared with CS in patients with asymptomatic severe AS.

Methods: Studies were quantitatively assessed in a meta-analysis using random-effects modeling.
