Published: January 2022

Background: Acute retinal necrosis (ARN) is a fulminant necrotizing vaso-occlusive retinitis associated with a high incidence of vision loss. Prognostic factors associated with the treatment of ARN have not been comprehensively identified. This study aimed to determine therapeutic prognostic factors associated with long-term clinical outcomes in eyes with ARN.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients with ARN who were treated between 2005 and 2019 in two tertiary ophthalmology departments in Seoul, Korea. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate prognostic factors associated with late-onset retinal detachment (RD) and vision loss (<20/200).

Results: Sixty-one eyes with ARN with an average follow-up of 63.5 months were included. Surgical intervention of vitrectomy (odds ratio [OR], 0.04; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.004-0.47) and intraoperative prophylactic laser use (OR, 0.14; 95% CI, 0.02-0.81) were independently associated with a decreased risk of late RD. The factors independently associated with an increased risk of vision loss were worse initial visual acuity (OR, 3.28; 95% CI, 1.50-7.21), zone 1 involvement of necrotic retinitis (OR, 10.84; 95% CI, 1.62-72.41), and late-onset RD (OR, 5.38; 95% CI, 1.92-31.54).

Conclusion: Vitrectomy and/or prophylactic intraoperative laser treatment may be effective treatment options in preventing delayed RD associated with an increased risk of vision loss in eyes with ARN.

Evaluation of Lyso-Gb1 as a biomarker for Gaucher disease treatment outcomes using data from the Gaucher Outcome Survey.

Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectious Diseases, University Hospital, Heinrich- Heine University, Düsseldorf, Germany.

Background: Patients with Gaucher disease (GD) require continual monitoring; however, lack of specific disease biomarkers was a significant challenge in the past. Glucosylsphingosine (lyso-Gb1) has been shown to be a reliable, key, specific, and sensitive biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response in clinical studies of patients with GD. We evaluated the change in lyso-Gb1 concentration over time following enzyme replacement therapy in patients with confirmed GD using real-world data from the Gaucher Outcome Survey disease registry.

Background: /aims. Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum (PXE, OMIM 264800) is an autosomal, recessive, metabolic disorder characterized by progressive ectopic calcification in the skin, the vasculature and Bruch's membrane. Variants in the ABCC6 gene are associated with low plasma pyrophosphate (PPi) concentration.

Background: He's team have recently developed a new Coronary Artery Tree description and Lesion EvaluaTion (CatLet) angiographic scoring system, which is capable of accounting for the variability in coronary anatomy, and risk-stratifying patients with coronary artery disease. Preliminary studies have demonstrated its superiority over the the Synergy between percutaneous coronary intervention with Taxus and Cardiac Surgery (SYNTAX) score with respect to outcome predictions for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. However, there are fewer studies on the prognostic in chronic coronary artery disease(CAD).

Background: Glioblastoma is the commonest malignant brain tumor and has a very poor prognosis. Reduced expression of the MGMT gene (10q26.3), influenced primarily by the methylation of two differentially methylated regions (DMR1 and DMR2), is associated with a good response to temozolomide treatment.

Background: The significance of the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score in predicting the prognostic outcomes of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) has been widely explored, with conflicting results. Therefore, the present meta-analysis aimed to identify the prognostic significance of the CONUT in DLBCL by aggregating current evidence.

Methods: The Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, CNKI and Cochrane Library databases were searched for articles from inception to October 15, 2024.
