We aimed to prepare a bioactive and biodegradable bilayer mesh formed by fibroblast growth factor (FGF) loaded gelatin film layer, and poly ε-caprolactone (PCL) film layer, and to investigate its treatment efficacy on esophageal anastomosis. It is envisaged that the bioactive mesh in in vivo model would improve tissue healing in rats. The full thickness semicircular defects of 0.5 × 0.5 cm were created in anterior walls of abdominal esophagus. The control group had abdominal esophagus isolated with distal esophageal blunt dissection, and sham group had primary anastomosis. In the test groups, the defects were covered with bilayer polymeric meshes containing FGF (5 μg/2 cm), or not. All rats were sacrificed for histopathology investigation after 7 or 28 days of operation. The groups are coded as FGF(-)-7th day, FGF(+)-7th day, and FGF(+)-28th day, based on their content and operation day. Highest burst pressures were obtained for FGF(+)-7th day, and FGF(+)-28th day groups (p < 0.005) and decreased inflammation grades were observed. Submucosal and muscular collagen deposition scores were markedly increased in these groups compared to sham and FGF(-)-7th day groups having no FGF (p = 0.002, p = 0.001, respectively). It was proved that FGF loaded bioactive bilayer mesh provided effective repair, reinforcement and tissue healing of esophageal defects.

Introduction: The effectiveness of laparoscopic repair for recurrent inguinal hernias has been previously reported; however, recurrence following bilayer mesh use has rarely been reported. We report a case of successful total laparoscopic repair of a recurrent inguinal hernia of the bladder in which a bilayer mesh was used for the initial direct inguinal hernia.
Presentation Of Case: An 80-year-old man underwent hernia repair using a bilayer mesh for a right direct hernia 12 years ago.

Restricted by the physical properties of materials, most traditional metasurfaces (MSs) cannot achieve transparent stealth in the visible spectrum. Although some metasurfaces for holography have been designed, there is no standard method for evaluating the advancement of wavefront manipulation under different design algorithms. Here, a complex-amplitude metasurface with optical transparency (OT) and full-space manipulation is presented in the millimeterwave band.

Periodontal disease poses significant challenges to the long-term stability of oral health by destroying the supporting structures of teeth. Guided tissue regeneration techniques, particularly barrier membranes, enable local regeneration by providing an isolated, protected compartment for osseous wound healing while excluding epithelial tissue. Here, this study reports on a thermosensitive periodontal membrane (TSPM) technology designed to overcome the mechanical limitations of current membranes through a semi-interpenetrating network of high molecular weight poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) and in situ-polymerized mesh of poly(ε-caprolactone)diacrylate (PCL-DA), and poly lactide-co-glycolide diacrylate (PLGA-DA).

The Helfrich free energy is widely used to model the generation of membrane curvature due to different physical and chemical components. The governing equations resulting from the energy minimization procedure are a system of coupled higher order partial differential equations. Simulations of membrane deformation for obtaining quantitative comparisons against experimental observations require computational schemes that will allow us to solve these equations without restrictions to axisymmetric coordinates.

The development of stable and selective electrocatalysts for converting CO to value-added chemicals or fuels has gained much interest in terms of their potential to mitigate anthropogenic carbon emissions. Most of the electrocatalysts are tested under pure CO; however, industrial outlet flue gas contains numerous impurities, such as NO and SO, which poison the electrocatalysts and alter the product selectivity. Developing electrocatalysts that are resistant to such impurities is essential for commercial implementation.
