The present paper examines the impact that the nanotube morphology and organic or inorganic intercalated species may have on the cesium sorption by layered vanadium oxides prepared with the use of hexadecylamine as a structure-directing agent. The hybrid material represented by a chemical formula of (VO)(VO)(CHN)(HO) was achieved through accelerated microwave-assisted synthesis carefully optimized to ensure the best compromise between the scroll-like morphology and the hydrophobic character. To enhance its dispersibility in water, this sample was subsequently modified by progressive replacement of the CHN units by NH cations. The final materials represented a stacking of lamellar sheets with a worse scroll-like morphology. Both the optimization procedure and the template removal were monitored on the basis of scanning and transmission electronic microscopy, X-ray diffraction, infra-red spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and elemental analysis, supplemented by adequate simulations methods providing the reference IR spectra and XRD patterns for comparison or the textural parameters of the samples. The comparison of the cesium sorption from either a 4:1 ethanol-water mixture or aqueous solutions pointed toward the solubility of intercalated cations in the bulk solution as the main factor limiting their displacement from the interlayer space by the oncoming cesium ones. The sample obtained after 70% exchange with NH exhibited a maximum sorption capacity of 1.4 mmol g from CsNO aqueous solutions and its retention efficiency remained significant from low-concentration Cs solutions in river or sea water.

Background: Plasmonic core-shell nanostructures with embedded internal markers used as Raman probes have attracted great attention in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) immunoassay for cancer biomarkers due to their excellent uniform enhancement. However, current core-shell nanostructures typically exhibit a spherical shape and are coated with a gold shell, resulting in constrained local field enhancement.
Results: In this work, we prepared a core-shell AuNR@BDT@Ag structure by depositing silver on the surface of Raman reporter-modified gold nanorods (AuNR).

The objective of the present work was to prepare hybrid epoxy composites with improved mechanical and thermal properties. The simultaneous use of two different modifiers in an epoxy resin was motivated by the expected occurrence of synergistic effects on the performance properties of the matrix. Such a hybrid composite can be used in more severe conditions and/or in broader application areas.

Prostate cancer (PCa) pathogenesis relies on intercellular communication, which can involve tunnelling nanotubes (TNTs) and extracellular vesicles (EVs). TNTs and EVs have been reported to transfer critical cargo involved in cellular functions and signalling, prompting us to investigate the extent of organelle and protein transfer in PCa cells and the potential involvement of the androgen receptor. Using live cell imaging microscopy, we observed extensive formation of TNTs and EVs operating between PCa, non-malignant, and immune cells.

Metastasizing cancer cells surreptitiously can adapt to metabolic activity during their invasion. By initiating their communications for invasion, cancer cells can reprogram their cellular activities to initiate their proliferation and migration and uniquely counteract metabolic stress during their progression. During this reprogramming process, cancer cells' metabolism and other cellular activities are integrated and mutually regulated by tunneling nanotube communications to alter their specific metabolic functional drivers of tumor growth and progression.

Object: We aim to explore the immunomodulatory properties of T cells on different titanium nanotubes and the key immunological factors involved in this process.
Methods: Transcriptome data from GEO database of healthy people and healthy implants were used to analyze cell infiltration and factor distribution of adaptive immune using bioinformatics tools. T cells from activated rat were cultured on titanium nanotubes that were prepared by anodization with different diameters (P-0, NT15-30 nm, NT40-100 nm, NT70-200 nm).
