Small-diameter synthetic vascular grafts are required for surgical bypass grafting when there is a lack of suitable autologous vessels due to different reasons, such as previous operations. Thrombosis is the main cause of failure of small-diameter synthetic vascular grafts when used for this revascularization technique. Therefore, the development of biodegradable vascular grafts capable of providing a localized and sustained antithrombotic drug release mark a major step forward in the fight against cardiovascular diseases, which are the leading cause of death globally. The present paper describes the use of an extrusion-based 3D printing technology for the production of biodegradable antiplatelet tubular grafts for cardiovascular applications. For this purpose, acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) was chosen as a model molecule due to its antiplatelet activity. Poly(caprolactone) and ASA were combined for the fabrication and characterization of ASA-loaded tubular grafts. Moreover, rifampicin (RIF) was added to the formulation containing the higher ASA loading, as a model molecule that can be used to prevent vascular prosthesis infections. The produced tubular grafts were fully characterized through multiple techniques and the last step was to evaluate their drug release, antiplatelet and antimicrobial activity and cytocompatibility. The results suggested that these materials were capable of providing a sustained ASA release for periods of up to 2 weeks. Tubular grafts containing 10% (/) of ASA showed lower platelet adhesion onto the surface than the blank and grafts containing 5% (/) of ASA. Moreover, tubular grafts scaffolds containing 1% (/) of RIF were capable of inhibiting the growth of . Finally, the evaluation of the cytocompatibility of the scaffold samples revealed that the incorporation of ASA or RIF into the composition did not compromise cell viability and proliferation at short incubation periods (24 h).

Solid organ transplantation has emerged as a crucial intervention in the field of medicine. During transplantation, our human body perceives the organ as an exogenous entity or graft, initiating an immune reaction to eliminate it. This immune response ultimately culminates in the rejection of the graft.

Background And Objective: In clinical practice, valve-sparing aortic root replacement surgery primarily addresses left ventricular dysfunction in patients due to severe aortic regurgitation, but there is controversy regarding the choice of surgical technique. In order to investigate which type of valve-sparing aortic root replacement surgeries can achieve better blood flow conditions, this study examines the impact of changes in the geometric morphology of the aortic root on the hemodynamic environment through numerical simulation.
Methods: An idealized model of the aortic root was established based on data obtained from clinical measurements, including using the model of the aortic root without significant lesions as the control group (Model C), while using surgical models of leaflet reimplantation with tubular graft (Model T), leaflet reimplantation with Valsalva graft (Model V), and the Florida sleeve procedure (Model F) as the experimental groups.

Dent disease is a rare X-linked tubulopathy that is characterized by low-molecular-weight (LMW) proteinuria associated with hypercalciuria, which may lead to nephrolithiasis, nephrocalcinosis, and kidney failure between the 3rd and the 5th decades of life in 30-80% of affected males. The disease is most often associated with various manifestations of proximal tubular dysfunction. Affected individuals may present nephrotic range proteinuria which may be misinterpreted and cause diagnostic delay.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease. Current treatments for DKD do not halt renal injury progression, highlighting an urgent need for therapies targeting key disease mechanisms. Our previous studies demonstrated that activating the Sigma-1 receptor (S1R) with fluvoxamine (FLU) protects against acute kidney injury by inhibiting inflammation and ameliorating the effect of hypoxia.

Given the significant impact of delayed graft function (DGF) on transplant outcomes, the aim of this study was to develop and validate machine learning (ML) models capable of predicting the risk of DGF in deceased-donor kidney transplantation (DDKT). This retrospective cohort study was conducted using clinical and histopathological data collected between 2018 and 2022 at Ramathibodi Hospital from DDKT donors, recipients, and post-implantation time-zero kidney biopsy samples to develop predictive models. The performance of three ML models (neural network, random forest, and extreme gradient boosting [XGBoost]) and traditional logistic regression on an independent test data set was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) and Brier score calibration.
