KZ-21 was compared with THG-SMD2.3 to examine the taxonomic relationship between the two type strains. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of KZ-21 shared complete similarity (100.0 %) with that of THG-SMD2.3. The results of phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the two strains formed a tight cluster within the genus . Genome comparison between the two strains revealed an average nucleotide identity of 99.2 % and a digital DNA-DNA hybridization estimate of 93.7±1.8 %, strongly indicating that the two strains belong to a single species. In addition, neither strain displayed any striking differences in metabolic, physiological or chemotaxonomic features. Therefore, we propose as a later heterotypic synonym of .

CU 3-7 (=JCM 19861=KACC 17904) was identified as a novel species primarily through phylogenetic analyses of the 16S rRNA gene, heat shock protein 60 () and sequences, and DNA-DNA hybridization (DDH) compared to . However, genome-based taxonomic approaches have not been studied yet. This study reassessed the taxonomic relationship between and using overall genome-associated indices.

The commensal species and are genetically diverse to a degree that challenges traditional definitions of species. This causes automatic identification based on DNA sequences or cellular extract profiles problematic. Based on an initial analysis of 266 genomes, we subjected a subset of 100 representative genomes to detailed phylogenetic, pairwise distance and gene pattern analyses.

The genus comprises Gram-positive bacteria found in diverse natural environments and is classified in the family within the order . Some species exhibit considerable phylogenetic and taxonomic overlaps, prompting a comprehensive investigation that integrates phylogenetic, phylogenomic and comparative genomic analyses to elucidate the taxonomic status of two species. JCM 3387ᵀ and DSM 44772 shared 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 99.

The paper provides nomenclatural and taxonomic accounts on , a diploid species found in the Eastern Alps, the Carpathians, and the Dinarides, as well as comments on its current distribution. A careful examination of historic taxonomic literature showed that the combination was first proposed by Kerner and predates a currently used much younger isonym by Soják (1871 vs. 1971).
