We herein report a high-resolution nanopatterning method using low voltage electromechanical spinning with a rotating collector to obtain aligned graphitized micro and nanowires for carbon nanomanufacturing. A small wire diameter and a small inter-wire spacing were obtained by controlling the electric field, the spinneret-to-collector distance, the pyrolysis parameters, the linear speed of the spinneret, the rotational speed of the collector. Using a simple scaling analysis, we show how the straightness and the diameter of the wires can be controlled by the electric field and the distance of the spinneret to the collector. A small inter-wire spacing, as predicted by a simple model, was achieved by simultaneously controlling the linear speed of the spinneret and the rotational speed of the collector. Rapid drying of the polymer nanowires enabled the facile fabrication of suspended wires over various structures. Patterned polyacrylonitrile wires were carbonized using standard stabilization and pyrolysis to obtain carbon nanowires. Suspended carbon nanowires with a diameter of <50 nm were obtained. We also established a method for making patterned, highly graphitized structures by using the aforementioned carbon wire structures as a template for chemical vapor deposition of graphite. This patterning technique offers high throughput for nano writing, which outperforms other existing nanopatterning techniques, making it a potential candidate for large-scale carbon nanomanufacturing.

One-time programmable (OTP) memory is an essential component in chips, which has extremely high security to protect the stored critical information from being altered. However, traditional OTP memory based on the thermal breakdown of the dielectric has a large programming current, which leads to high power consumption. Here, we report a gate tunneling-induced "cold" breakdown phenomenon in carbon nanotube (CNT) field-effect transistors, and based on this we construct a "cold" fuse (C-fuse) memory where applying a mild gate voltage can break down the CNT channel without damaging the gate dielectric.

In a previous report, we showed that voltage-gated K+ (Kv) Kv1 and Kv2 channels are involved in cAMP-induced neuritogenesis of mouse neuronal N2A cells. In this report, we examined the effects of tannic acid (TA) on Kv channels and neuritogenesis in N2A cells. TA (15 μM) mildly enhanced Kv currents at -30 to -20 mV but strongly inhibited Kv currents at higher voltages, causing a preferential activation of currents at low voltages.

Low-voltage electrostatic field (LP) enhances the freezing quality of food by increasing water supercooling and improving ice crystal morphology. This study explored the effects of LP treatment on the storage quality of square bamboo shoots using physicochemical, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and metabolomics methods. Results showed that with prolonged storage, the LP-treated group had lower activities of peroxidase, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, and lower levels of malondialdehyde, cellulose, and lignin compared to the control group, while superoxide dismutase and catalase activities and shear force values were higher.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of non-electrocardiogram (ECG)-triggered chest low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) with a kV-independent reconstruction algorithm in assessing coronary artery calcification (CAC) degree and cardiovascular disease risk in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD).

Methods: In total, 181 patients receiving MHD who needed chest CT and coronary artery calcium score (CACS) scannings sequentially underwent non-ECG-triggered, automated tube voltage selection, high-pitch chest LDCT with a kV-independent reconstruction algorithm and ECG-triggered standard CACS scannings. Then, the image quality, radiation doses, Agatston scores (ASs), and cardiac risk classifications of the two scans were compared.

Low-dose quinine targets KCNH6 to potentiate glucose-induced insulin secretion.

Insulin secretion is mainly regulated by two electrophysiological events, depolarization initiated by the closure of ATP-sensitive K+ (KATP) channels and repolarization mediated by K+ efflux. Quinine, a natural component commonly used for the treatment of malaria, has been reported to directly stimulate insulin release and lead to hypoglycemia in patients during treatment through inhibiting KATP channels. In this study, we verified the insulinotropic effect of quinine on the isolated mouse pancreatic islets.
