Background And Purpose: Distinguishing branchial cleft cysts (BrCCs) from cystic metastases of human papillomavirus (HPV) positive tonsillar or base of tongue squamous cell carcinoma and cancer of unknown primary (CUP) is challenging. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) from cystic metastasis can be nonrepresentative, while reactive squamous cells from BrCC can be atypical. It is unclear whether benign characteristics and the absence of HPV-DNA in FNAC can enhance distinguishing BrCC from a cystic metastasis; therefore, we investigated here.

The nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) contains neurons that relay sensory swallowing commands information from the oropharyngeal cavity and swallowing premotor neurons of the dorsal swallowing group (DSG). However, the spatio-temporal dynamics of the interplay between the sensory relay and the DSG is not well understood. Here, we employed fluorescence imaging after microinjection of the calcium indicator into the NTS in an arterially perfused brainstem preparation of rat (n = 8) to investigate neuronal population activity in the NTS in response to superior laryngeal nerve (SLN) stimulation.

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and histological characteristics of CPs in children compared to adult patients. Characteristics of patients (demography, main complaints, side, localization, surgical approach, histological characteristics, accompanying chronic rhinosinusitis [CRS], association with allergic rhinitis [AR] and aspirin sensitivity, postoperative follow-up period, recurrence rates) were retrospectively reviewed.

Background/aim: Parotid oncocytomas typically present as benign, unilateral, slow-growing, painless, and solitary masses that are histologically firm and multilobulated. They are often misdiagnosed as pleomorphic adenomas, hemangiomas, or other forms of oncocytosis. However, in our case, the parotid oncocytomas initially mimicked bilateral parotid gland metastasis of advanced oropharyngeal cancer.

Background: The imaging manifestations of oral and maxillofacial myofibroma/myofibromatosis can vary among patients. Although many clinical cases have been reported, a consensus on the clinicopathological features of and treatment principles for this disease is lacking.
Purpose: This study aimed to summarize the clinicopathological features of solitary myofibroma of the oral and maxillofacial regions in pediatric patients.
