Dual-confined porous Si@c-ZIF@carbon nanofibers (Si@c-ZIF@CNFs) are fabricated that possess excellent antioxidant capacity, high surface area and abundant pores, which enhances conductivity, relieves volume expansion and facilitates electrolyte penetration during cycling. When evaluated as self-supporting anodes for lithium-ion batteries, the Si@c-ZIF@CNFs exhibit excellent cycling and rate performance.

Shape-memory photonic crystals (SMPCs) transform the nanoscale deformation of copolymers into structural color through an undifferentiated response to stimuli; however, activatable selective responses are extremely rare. Herein, activatable dual confined shape-memory effects (CSMEs) derived from the remodeling of the interchain hydrogen bonds (H-bonds) in cold-programmable SMPCs are revealed. The first level is the water-triggered reconstruction of interchain H-bonds, which can activate/lock the collapsed skeleton, showing shape recovery/retention in response to ethanol vapor.

Owing to their unique nanosize effect and surface effect, pseudocapacitive quantum dots (QDs) hold considerable potential for high-efficiency supercapacitors (SCs). However, their pseudocapacitive behavior is exploited in aqueous electrolytes with narrow potential windows, thereby leading to a low energy density of the SCs. Here, a film electrode based on dual-confined FeOOH QDs (FQDs) with superior pseudocapacitive behavior in a high-voltage ionic liquid (IL) electrolyte is put forward.

Although lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries have attracted much attention due to their high theoretical specific energy and low cost, their practical applications have been severely hindered by poor cycle life, inadequate sulfur utilization, and the insulating nature of sulfur. Here, we report a rationally designed Li-S cathode with a dual-confined configuration formed by confining sulfur in 2D carbon nanosheets with an abundant porous structure followed by 3D graphene aerogel wrapping. The porous carbon nanosheets act as the sulfur host and suppress the diffusion of polysulfide, while the graphene conductive networks anchor the sulfur-adsorbed carbon nanosheets, providing pathways for rapid electron/ion transport and preventing polysulfide dissolution.
