Mitochondrial quality control: Biochemical mechanism of cardiovascular disease.

Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Cell Res

January 2025

Department of Veterinary Sciences, University of Messina, 98168 Messina, Italy. Electronic address:

Mitochondria play a key role in the regulation of energy homeostasis and ATP production in cardiac cells. Mitochondrial dysfunction can trigger several pathological events that contribute to the development and progression of cardiovascular diseases. These mechanisms include the induction of oxidative stress, dysregulation of intracellular calcium cycling, activation of the apoptotic pathway, and alteration of lipid metabolism.

Multicolor iLIFE (m-iLIFE) volume cytometry for high-throughput imaging of multiple organelles.

Sci Rep

October 2024

Mondal Lab, Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, 560012, India.

To be able to resolve multiple organelles at high throughput is an incredible achievement. This will have immediate implications in a range of fields ranging from fundamental cell biology to translational medicine. To realize such a high-throughput multicolor interrogation modality, we have developed a light-sheet based flow imaging system that is capable of visualizing multiple sub-cellular components with organelle-level resolution.

Cytokinesis is the final stage of the cell cycle that results in the physical separation of daughter cells. To accomplish cytokinesis, many organisms build an actin- and myosin-based cytokinetic ring (CR) that is anchored to the plasma membrane (PM). Defects in CR-PM anchoring can arise when the PM lipid phosphatidylinositol (4,5)-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P2] is depleted.

Selenomethionine supplementation mitigates fluoride-induced liver apoptosis and inflammatory reactions by blocking Parkin-mediated mitophagy in mice.

College of Veterinary Medicine, Shanxi Agricultural University, Taigu, 030801 Jinzhong, Shanxi, PR China; Shanxi Key Laboratory of Environmental Veterinary Medicine, Shanxi Agricultural University, Taigu, 030801 Jinzhong, Shanxi, PR China. Electronic address:

As an environmental pollutant, fluoride-induced liver damage is directly linked to mitochondrial alteration and oxidative stress. Selenium's antioxidant capacity has been shown to alleviate liver damage. Emerging research proves that E3 ubiquitin ligase Park2 (Parkin)-mediated mitophagy may be a therapeutic target for fluorosis.

Singlet Fission in Pechmann Dyes: Planar Chromophore Design and Understanding.

J Am Chem Soc

July 2024

Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, Lensfield Road, Cambridge CB2 1EW, U.K.

Singlet fission in organic chromophores holds the potential for enhancing photovoltaic efficiencies beyond the single-junction limit. The most basic requirement of a singlet fission material is that it has a large energy gap between its first singlet and triplet excited states. Identifying such compounds is not simple and has been accomplished either through computational screening or by subtle modifications of previously known fission materials.
