QIIME is a widely used, open-source microbiome analysis software package that converts raw sequence data into interpretable visualizations and statistical results. QIIME2 has recently succeeded QIIME1, becoming the most updated platform. The protocols in this article describe our effort in automating core functions of QIIME2, using datasets available at docs.qiime2.org. While these specific examples are microbial 16S rRNA gene sequences, our automation can be easily applied to other types of QIIME2 analysis. © 2021 Wiley Periodicals LLC. Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) represents the second cause of vaginal infections in childbearing-age women. It mainly affects the vulva and vagina; however, other organs can be compromised, with consequences that are not well known yet. To evaluate the ability of Candida albicans, inoculated into the vaginal lumen of mice, to migrate to the uterus and ovaries.

Mesothelioma is a lethal cancer of the serosal lining of the body cavities. Risk factors include environmental and genetic factors. Asbestos exposure is considered the principal environmental risk factor, but other carcinogenic mineral fibers, such as erionite, also have a causal role.

In vivo calcium imaging in freely moving rats using miniscopes provides valuable information about the neural mechanisms of behavior in real time. A gradient index (GRIN) lens can be implanted in deep brain structures to relay activity from single neurons. While such procedures have been successful in mice, few reports provide detailed procedures for successful surgery and long-term imaging in rats, which are better suited for studying complex human behaviors.

Late-life physical activity, midlife-to-late-life activity patterns, APOE ε4 genotype, and cognitive impairment among Chinese older adults: a population-based observational study.

Int J Behav Nutr Phys Act

Background: Although physical activity (PA) has been linked to cognitive health, the nuanced relationships between different dimensions of PA and cognitive impairment remain inconclusive. This study investigated associations between late-life PA levels, midlife-to-late-life activity patterns, and cognitive impairment in Chinese older adults, considering potential moderation by apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 genotype.

Methods: We analyzed baseline data from 6,899 participants (median age 68 years, 55.

An antagonistic role of clock genes and lima1 in kidney regeneration.

The circadian clock genes are known important for kidney development, maturation and physiological functions. However, whether and how they play a role in renal regeneration remain elusive. Here, by using the single cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology, we investigated the dynamic gene expression profiles and cell states after acute kidney injury (AKI) by gentamicin treatment in zebrafish.
