In an assisted self-assembly approach starting from the [Mn O (piv) (4-Me-py) (pivH) ] cluster a family of Mn-Ln compounds (Ln=Pr-Yb) was synthesised. The reaction of [Mn O (piv) (4-Me-py) (pivH) ] (1) with N-methyldiethanolamine (mdeaH ) and Ln(NO ) ⋅ 6H O in MeCN generally yields two main structure types: for Ln=Tb-Yb a previously reported Mn Ln motif is obtained, whereas for Ln=Pr-Eu a series of Mn Ln clusters is obtained. Within this series the Gd analogue represents a special case because it shows both structural types as well as a third Mn Ln inverse butterfly motif. Variation in reaction conditions allows access to different structure types across the whole series. This prompts further studies into the reaction mechanism of this cluster assisted self-assembly approach. For the Mn Ln analogues reported here variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements suggest that antiferromagnetic interactions between the spin carriers are dominant. Compounds incorporating Ln=Nd (2), Sm (3) and Gd (5) display SMM behaviour. The slow relaxation of the magnetisation for these compounds was confirmed by ac measurements above 1.8 K.

The self-assembly of rice glutelin (RG) into RG fibrils (RGFs) represents a promising strategy for enhancing its functional properties. In this study, we investigated the effects of ultrasonic pretreatment on the fibrillation kinetics, structural characteristics, and functional properties of RGFs. The results indicated that ultrasonic pretreatment facilitated the unfolding of RG, resulting in an increased H and β-sheet, thereby accelerating the formation of RGFs and enhancing the fibril conversion rate.

In the realm of hybrid nanomaterials, the construction of core/shell nanoparticles offer an effective strategy for encompassing a particle by a polymeric or other suitable material, leading to a nanocomposite with distinct features within its structure. The polymer shell can be formed via nanoprecipitation, optimized by manipulating fluid flow, fluid mixing, modulating device features in microfluidics. In addition to the process optimization, success of polymer assembly in encapsulation strongly lies upon the favorable molecular interactions originating from the diverse chemical environment shared between core and shell materials facilitating formation of core/shell nanostructure.

Precise patterning of sensing materials, particularly the long-range-ordered assembly of micro/nanostructures, is pivotal for improving sensor performance, facilitating miniaturization, and enabling seamless integration. This paper examines the importance of interfacial confined assembly in sensor patterning, including gas-liquid and liquid-liquid confined assembly, wettability-assisted or microstructure-assisted solid-liquid interfacial confined assembly, and tip-induced confined assembly. The application of capillary bridge confined assembly technology in chemical sensors, flexible electronics, and optoelectronics is highlighted.

Multimerization is a powerful engineering strategy for enhancing protein structural stability, diversity and functional performance. Typical methods for clustering proteins include tandem linking, fusion to self-assembly domains and cross-linking. Here we present a novel approach that leverages the Peptidisc membrane mimetic to stabilize hydrophobic-driven protein clusters.

Slurry ice preparation experiences considerable supercooling, which can be mitigated by nano-nucleating agents. A nano-nucleating agent (CH/PE-TP NPs) was prepared by ultrasonication-assistant self-assembly of chitosan (CH) and pectin (PE), encapsulated with tea polyphenols (TP). Ultrasonication for 10 min downsized self-assembled aggregates from 5.
