Background: Individuals born preterm at very low birthweight (VLBW, < 1500 g) tend to attain a smaller adult body size compared with term-born peers but less is known regarding specific body composition characteristics.
Objectives: We aimed to assess whether adults born at VLBW have less beneficial body composition characteristics, potentially mediating the association between VLBW birth and cardiometabolic disease. Sibling controls were used to account for the potential influence of shared genetic and/or lifestyle factors.

Key Points: Under a controlled diet, uric acid stone formers (UASFs) and diabetic patients have higher endogenous net acid production. Under a controlled diet, UASFs have lower ammonium-to-net acid excretion ratio. Body fat inversely correlates with urine buffer capacity in normal individuals, but this relationship is lost in diabetic patients and UASFs.

Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA) is an infrequent and complex congenital malformation, which accounts for approximately 0.5% of all congenital heart defects. This defect is characterized by both atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance, with the right atrium connected to the morphological left ventricle (LV), ejecting blood into the pulmonary artery, while the left atrium is connected to the morphological right ventricle (RV), ejecting blood into the aorta.
