School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich Research Park, Norwich, NR4 7TJ, UK.

Background: Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNA)s are non-coding small RNAs that post-transcriptionally affect gene expression and regulation. Through complementary seed region binding with transposable elements (TEs), piRNAs protect the genome from transposition. A tool to link piRNAs with complementary TE targets will improve our understanding of the role of piRNAs in genome maintenance and gene regulation.

The generation of forensic DNA profiles consisting of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) is now being facilitated by wider adoption of next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods in casework laboratories. At the same time, and in part because of this advance, there is an intense focus on the generation of SNP profiles from evidentiary specimens for so-called forensic or investigative genetic genealogy (FGG or IGG) applications. However, FGG methods are constrained by the algorithms for genealogical database searches, which were designed for use with single-source profiles, and the fact that many forensic samples are mixtures.

Overview and Prospects of DNA Sequence Visualization.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2025

School of Mathematics and Computer Science, Gannan Normal University, Ganzhou 341000, China.

Due to advances in big data technology, deep learning, and knowledge engineering, biological sequence visualization has been extensively explored. In the post-genome era, biological sequence visualization enables the visual representation of both structured and unstructured biological sequence data. However, a universal visualization method for all types of sequences has not been reported.

Background: Currently, synthetic genomics is a rapidly developing field. Its main tasks, such as the design of synthetic sequences and the assembly of DNA sequences from synthetic oligonucleotides, require specialized software. In this article, we present a program with a graphical interface that allows non-bioinformatics to perform the tasks needed in synthetic genomics.

The antibacterial efficacy of some newly developed bis- and C3-carboxylic moieties of fluoroquinolone-linked triazole conjugates was studied. Twenty compounds from two different series of triazoles were synthesized using click chemistry and evaluated for their antibacterial activity against a Gram-positive strain, (ATCC29212), and its clinical isolate and a Gram-negative bacterial strain, (ATCC25922), and its clinical isolate. Among the compounds, 7, 9a, 9d, 9i, 10(a-d), and 10i showed excellent activity with MIC values of up to 6.
