Introduction: Few studies have investigated potential seasonal changes in anxiety disorders. This study aimed to evaluate whether seasonal changes influence the severity of obsessive and compulsive symptoms in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The relationship between comorbid anxiety and depression symptoms and the seasons was also investigated. Furthermore, we compared the differences between retrospective data reliant on patients' recall and data obtained by prospective observation.
Methods: The Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), Y-BOCS Symptom Checklist, Beck Anxiety Scale, and Beck Depression Scale were administered to 148 patients with OCD in each of the four seasons over a year. The relationships between the seasons and the scales based on retrospective observations of the patients, and between the seasons and scales based on prospective data collected over the year were analyzed. Scores from clinical assessments were compared between the different seasons.
Results: The severity of obsessive and compulsive symptoms, did not show seasonal changes. Multi-level growth models suggested that the change in Y-BOCS Total scores across seasons could be explained by subjective symptoms of depression and anxiety and their interactions. Importantly, results obtained using prospective observations from structured clinical assessment differed from those obtained using retrospective observations of patients.
Conclusions: Our study does not support the existence of seasonal variations in symptoms of OCD. Future studies are needed to delineate seasonal variations in OCD symptoms.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of UCCs on reducing non-urgent Emergency Department (ED) visits and improving patient flow, focusing on metrics such as door-to-doctor time, doctor-to-decision time, and overall patient disposition.
Methods: This observational cohort pre-post study analyzed data from 198,050 ED visits to King Fahad Hospital, Al Madina Al Munawara between June 2021 and May 2023 and compared visit patterns before and after UCC implementation.
Results: Post-UCC implementation, the average door-to-doctor time decreased but was not statistically significant.

Background: Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV) reduced invasive disease, but the overall prevalence of pneumococcal nasopharyngeal colonization among children has not changed significantly. Our knowledge of which serotypes, once colonized, hold a higher likelihood to cause invasive disease is limited.
Methods: Serotype-specific invasive capacity (IC) of Streptococcus pneumoniae was estimated using an enhanced population-based invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) surveillance in children <7 years of age in Massachusetts and surveillance of nasopharyngeal (NP) colonization in selected Massachusetts communities in corresponding respiratory seasons.

We evaluate global microplastics particle density distribution using field data from 1972 to 2022, made available by the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) NCEI (National Centers for Environmental Information) global marine microplastics database. We resampled the measured microplastics density data from NOAA NCEI into a regularly spaced 1° × 1° grid and applied ordinary block kriging on a 1° × 1° mask map of the global oceans to spatially interpolate the gridded data. Climate data were retrieved from the Climate Data Store of the Copernicus Climate Change Service.
