We experimentally demonstrate the possibility of quasi-adiabatic conversion of modes to vortex modes in a twisted highly birefringent fiber with a gradually increasing twist rate. Based on the value of the effective indices, the modes are selectively converted to right- and left-handed circularly polarized vortex modes with a total angular momentum of ±2 and to quasi-/ modes with a total angular momentum of 0. Since the proposed conversion method has a purely topological origin, it is broadband in nature, in contrast to the methods based on resonant effects.

Coexistence of the Radial-Guided Mode and WGM in Azimuthal-Grating-Integrated Microring Lasers.

Whispering-gallery mode (WGM) resonators, renowned for their high Q-factors and narrow line widths, are widely utilized in integrated photonics. Integrating diffraction gratings onto WGM cavities has gained significant attention because these gratings function as azimuthal refractive index modulators, enabling single-mode WGM emissions and supporting beams with orbital angular momentum (OAM). The introduction of curved grating structures facilitates guided mode resonances by coupling high-order diffracted waves with leaking modes from the waveguide.

Coherence vortices by binary pinholes.

Singularity in a two-point complex coherence function, known as coherence vortices, represents zero visibility with a helical phase structure. In this paper, we introduce a novel technique to generate the coherence vortices of different topological charges by incoherent source transmittance with exotic structured binary pinholes. The binary pinhole structures have been realized by lithography, followed by wet etching methods.

The generation of vector beams using metasurfaces is crucial for the manipulation of light fields and has significant application potential, ranging from classical physics to quantum science. This paper introduces a novel dielectric metasurface composed of quarter-wave plate (QWP) meta-atoms, known as a QWP metasurface, designed to generate focused vector beams (VBs) of Bell-like states under right circularly polarized illumination. The propagation phase imparted on both the co- and cross-polarized components of the output field constructs hyperbolic and helical phase profiles with topological charge , whereas the Pancharatnam-Berry (PB) phase acts only on the cross-polarized component to construct another helical phase profile with topological charge .

The orbital angular momentum (OAM) of beams provides an additional degree of freedom and has been applied in various scientific and technological fields. Accurate and quantitative measurement of intensity distributions across different OAM modes, referred to as the OAM spectrum of a beam, is crucial. Here, we propose a straightforward and efficient experimental setup for measuring the OAM spectrum of a randomly fluctuating beam.

Duality Constraints on Thermal Spectra of 3D Conformal Field Theories and 4D Quasinormal Modes.

Thermal spectra of correlation functions in holographic 3D large-N conformal field theories (CFTs) correspond to quasinormal modes of classical gravity and other fields in asymptotically anti-de Sitter black hole spacetimes. Using general properties of such spectra along with constraints imposed by the S duality (or the particle-vortex duality), we derive a spectral duality relation that all such spectra must obey. Its form is universal and relates infinite products over QNMs with bulk algebraically special frequencies.
