A case of transfusion-related AIDS is described which is believed to be the first published case to occur in New Zealand in a nonhaemophiliac patient. The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positive donor was shown to be the source of infection in five further HIV positive recipients.

Background: Vaginal colonization by Candida can lead to vulvovaginal candidiasis, which is the second most prevalent vaginal condition globally. It is frequently associated with sepsis and adverse neonatal outcomes in pregnant women. This issue is worsening in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia.

Background: In current years, the CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) based strategies have emerged as the most promising molecular tool in the field of gene editing, intracellular imaging, transcriptional regulation and biosensing. However, the recent CRISPR-based diagnostic technologies still require the incorporation of other amplification strategies (such as polymerase chain reaction) to improve the cis/trans cleavage activity of Cas12a, which complicates the detection workflow and lack of a uniform compatible system to respond to the target in one pot.

Results: To better fully-functioning CRISPR/Cas12a, we reported a novel technique for straightforward nucleic acid detection by incorporating enzyme-responsive steric hindrance-based branched inhibitors with CRISPR/AsCas12a methodology.

The US faces substantial demographic and geographic disparities in both HIV burden and access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), an effective strategy to prevent HIV acquisition. Long-acting cabotegravir (CAB) is a novel, injectable PrEP option which demonstrated superior reduction in risk of HIV acquisition compared to daily-oral PrEP in the HPTN083 trial. We modelled the impact of increased PrEP initiations and the introduction of long-acting CAB on HIV incidence among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Atlanta, Georgia, a population with a high burden of HIV.

Background: Adolescents who have the human immunodeficiency virus face difficulties in their lives not just from the physical consequences of the illness but also from social stigma and discrimination. The quantitative side of this issue was the focus of earlier Ethiopian research. However, there hasn't been any prior research done extensively in Ethiopia on the real-life experiences of teenagers infected with HIV.

Background: Malawians, in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), face the double burden of HIV and Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD). The life expectancy among HIV-positive people on antiretroviral therapy has increased consistently over the past 25 years. The purpose of the study was to determine the prevalence of dementia among people living with HIV (PLWHIV) and the general population without HIV as a comparison group in Malawi.
