Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is linked to prolonged endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. P21-activated kinase 2 (Pak2) facilitates a protective ER stress response. This study explores the mechanism and role of Pak2 in HFpEF pathology.

Berberine Improves Glucose and Lipid Metabolism in Obese Mice through the Reduction of IRE1/GSK-3β Axis-Mediated Inflammation.

Endocr Metab Immune Disord Drug Targets

January 2025

Department of Endocrinology, Jiangyin Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, No. 130 Renmin Middle Road, Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province, 214413, China.

Introduction: Berberine (BBR) has the characteristics of repressing hyperglycemia, obesity, and inflammation, as well as improving insulin resistance. However, the underlying mechanism remains to be fully understood. This study explores whether BBR regulates inositol requiring enzyme 1 (IRE1)/glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK-3β) axis to resist obesity-associated inflammation, thereby improving glucolipid metabolism disorders.

Background: Erectile dysfunction is a condition with a rapidly increasing prevalence globally with a strong correlation to the increase in obesity and cardiovascular disease rates.

Aim: The aim of the current study is to investigate the potential role of tubacin, a histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) inhibitor, in restoring erectile function in a hypercholesterolemia-induced endothelial dysfunction model.

Methods: Thirty-nine male C57Bl/6 J mice were divided into 3 groups.

Competition among bacteria for carbohydrates is pivotal for colonization resistance (CR). However, the impact of Western-style diets on CR remains unclear. Here we show how the competition between Klebsiella oxytoca and Klebsiella pneumoniae is modulated by consuming one of three Western-style diets characterized by high-starch, high-sucrose, or high-fat/high-sucrose content.

Overfeeding and overweight rapidly reprogram inflammatory signaling.

Clin Immunol

January 2025

Division of Immunology, Boston Children's Hospital, Boston, MA, United States of America. Electronic address:

Epidemiologic studies have shown a continuous increase in mortality risk associated with overweight, thus highlighting the health risks beginning before the onset of obesity. However, early changes in inflammatory signaling induced by an obesogenic diet remain largely unknown since studies of obesity typically utilize models induced by months of continuous exposure to a high-fat diet. Here, we investigated how short-term overfeeding remodels inflammatory signaling.
