Estimating the burden of obesity to society is an essential step in setting priorities and raising awareness. We aimed to assess the clinical, humanistic and economic burden of obesity for adults in Egypt. We used the population attributable fraction concept to estimate the burden. A non-systematic review was conducted to estimate the prevalence of obesity and its comorbidities in addition to the obesity attributable fraction. Patient numbers, direct healthcare costs, disability adjusted life years (DALYs) and attributable mortality were estimated. Obesity is a major contributor to the development of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea and fatty liver, in addition to several serious diseases. The estimated annual deaths due to obesity was about 115 thousand (19.08% of the total estimated deaths in 2020). DALYs attributable to obesity may have reached 4 million in 2020.The economic burden imposed by obesity is around 62 Billion Egyptian pounds annually. This value is the cost of treating diseases attributable to obesity in adults. Diseases attributable to obesity create a huge economic, humanistic, and clinical burden in Egypt. Reducing obesity could help dramatically decrease the catastrophic health effect of these diseases which in turn decreases mortality and DALYs lost.

Background: Obesity and ageing individually pose significant challenges to global public health, leading to preventable deaths. With an increasing geriatric population due to improved medical interventions, the intersection of these health issues becomes a critical concern worldwide. Both developed and developing countries grapple with the consequences of obesity, a major risk factor for various conditions like cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dementia, and neuropsychiatric diseases.

Background: Integrating clinical and genetic risk factors for dementia in a precision medicine framework can play a crucial role in primary prevention. Here, we ascertained the proportion of individuals who are at heightened risk of developing dementia based on their family history, genetic, and clinical risk factors and evaluated how the additive burden of these risk indicators is associated with incident dementia.

Method: We analyzed longitudinal data from 3,395 diverse older adults, dementia-free at baseline with follow-up and whole genome sequencing, enrolled in the National Alzheimer's Co-coordinating Center and the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (Table 1).

Background: The global burden of metabolic diseases is increasing, but estimates of their impact on primary liver cancer are uncertain. We aimed to assess the global burden of primary liver cancer attributable to metabolic risk factors, including high body mass index (BMI) and high fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels, between 1990 and 2021.

Methods: The total number and age-standardized rates of deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) from primary liver cancer attributable to each metabolic risk factor were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study 1990-2021.

Stroke is the second-leading cause of death worldwide, including in Syria, and the third-leading cause of death and disability combined. With approximately 90% of strokes worldwide linked to modifiable risk factors, identifying and quantifying these factors within a specific population is essential for effective prevention. This is the first study to investigate primary risk factors for stroke in Syria.

Multiple chronic conditions reduce the quality of life and increase healthcare needs for people with diabetes mellitus (DM). This study aims to describe the prevalence of comorbidities associated with DM in the European Union (EU) at national and sub-national levels and to assess the utility of a comorbidity burden index. The study was carried out using microdata from European Health Interview Survey 2019 including adults aged 25 and older with DM from 26 EU member states (n = 20,042).
