This article summarizes our early work with Viswanathan Natarajan in the 1980s at the University of Minnesota's Hormel Institute, when he was at the beginning of his brilliant academic career. At that time most metabolic pathways for the biosynthesis and degradation of phospholipids were well established and known in considerable detail. Hence, it was exciting to discover a novel sequence of biochemical reactions, first in dog heart and later in various other vertebrate cells and tissues that became known as the transacylation-phosphodiesterase pathway of phospholipid metabolism. Because one of the metabolites, N-arachidonoylethanolamine, produced by this reaction sequence, was later found to bind to and activate cannabinoid receptors, investigations of this pathway became part of the rapidly growing field of endocannabinoid research. This is briefly summarized here as well.

Purpose: The Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Cohort has enrolled over 60,000 children to examine how early environmental factors (broadly defined) are associated with key child health outcomes. The ECHO Cohort may be well-positioned to contribute to our understanding of rural environments and contexts, which has implications for rural health disparities research. The present study examined the outcome of child obesity to not only illustrate the suitability of ECHO Cohort data for these purposes but also determine how various definitions of rural and urban populations impact the presentation of findings and their interpretation.

Background: Open and crushed forearm injury is a complex and rare injury affecting the upper extremity. It results in damage to various structures, including bones, soft tissues, and neurovascular bundles, ultimately leading to functional impairment. Typically, these injuries occur owing to high-energy trauma.

Background: To investigate the effect of postoperative supplementary parenteral nutrition (SPN) containing varying energy intake levels during the early postoperative period on the clinical outcomes of patients diagnosed with gastric cancer.
Methods: Data from 237 patients, who were diagnosed with gastric cancer between January 2016 and June 2022, were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into 2 groups based on mean daily SPN energy intake: low (L-SPN; < 20 kcal/kg/day); and high (H-SPN; ≥ 20 kcal/kg/day).

Background: Blood pressure (BP) control following stroke is important but currently sub-optimal. This trial aimed to determine whether self-monitoring of hypertension with telemonitoring and a treatment escalation protocol, results in lower BP than usual care in people with previous stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).
Methods: Unblinded randomised controlled trial, comparing a BP telemonitoring-based intervention with control (usual care) for hypertension management in 12 primary care practices in England.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurologic disorder considered to cause discrepancies in physical activities, social skills, and cognition. There is no specific medicine for treating this disorder; early intervention is critical to improving brain function. Additionally, the lack of a clinical test for detecting ASD makes diagnosis challenging.
