Objectives: Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) has a high incidence and mortality, especially for elderly patients and patients who are positive for pathogenic microbial infection, this study explored the prognostic factors influencing the prognosis of elderly patients with pathogenic microorganisms positive of sepsis-associated encephalopathy.

Methods: Patients with SAE and pathogenic microbiology positive were included in this study from Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC IV) database. The main results of this study was analyzed the 28-day mortality rate of patients with pathogenic microorganism positive and SAE by Wilcoxon, Kaplan-Meier curve and other methods.

Outbreak of perichondritis associated with ear piercings and a contaminated water system.

In September 2023, the UK Health Security Agency's (UKHSA) South West Health Protection Team received notification of patients with perichondritis. All five cases had attended the same cosmetic piercing studio and a multi-disciplinary outbreak control investigation was subsequently initiated. An additional five cases attending the same studio were found.

: The increased prevalence of antibiotic resistance among Gram-negative bacteria presents a severe public health challenge, leading to increased mortality rates, prolonged hospital stays, and higher medical costs. In Greece, the issue of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria is particularly alarming, exacerbated by overuse of antibiotics and inadequate infection control measures. There is no experience with ciprofloxacin for the treatment of carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria (CP-GNB) infections. This is a retrospective single-centre study where we describe the clinical evolution of all consecutive adult patients who received ciprofloxacin monotherapy for the treatment of CP-GNB infections. Primary outcomes were clinical failure (defined as death, lack of clinical improvement or a switch to another drug) at day 14 and 30-day all-cause mortality.
