A nanoparticle (NP) immersed in biological media rapidly forms a corona of adsorbed proteins, which later controls the eventual fate of the particle and the route through which adverse outcomes may occur. The composition and timescale for the formation of this corona are both highly dependent on both the NP and its environment. The deposition of proteins on the surface of the NP can be imitated by a process of random sequential adsorption, and, based on this model, we develop a rate-equation treatment for the formation of a corona represented by hard spheres on spherical and cylindrical NPs. We find that the geometry of the NP significantly alters the composition of the corona through a process independent of the rate constants assumed for adsorption and desorption of proteins, with the radius and shape of the NP both influencing the corona. We further investigate the roles of protein mobility on the surface of the NP and changes in the concentration of proteins.

The formation of a functional tibial stump after combat injuries with extensive tissue damage is sometimes difficult. We describe a case of reconstruction of the tibial stump after a mine-blast injury. In this case, the fibula was completely removed as a result of fracture, and the tibia was amputated at the border of the upper and middle thirds.

Objective: Imaging techniques have demonstrated changes in the choroid and retina in acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), but the effects on the optic nerve head (ONH) remain unclear. This study investigates ONH structural changes in acute CSCR using enhanced deep imaging optic coherence tomography (EDI-OCT).

The dispersion of circumferential waves propagating around cylindrical and spherical underwater targets with an arbitrary number of elastic and fluid layers is modeled using the spectral collocation method. The underlying differential equations are discretized by Chebyshev interpolation and the corresponding differentiation matrices, and the calculation of the dispersion curves is transformed into a generalized eigenvalue problem.
