Depth-Camera-Aided Inertial Navigation Utilizing Directional Constraints.

This paper presents a practical yet effective solution for integrating an RGB-D camera and an inertial sensor to handle the depth dropouts that frequently happen in outdoor environments, due to the short detection range and sunlight interference. In depth drop conditions, only the partial 5-degrees-of-freedom pose information (attitude and position with an unknown scale) is available from the RGB-D sensor. To enable continuous fusion with the inertial solutions, the scale ambiguous position is cast into a of the vehicle motion, which is, in essence, an epipolar constraint in multi-view geometry. Unlike other visual navigation approaches, this can effectively reduce the drift in the inertial solutions without delay or under small parallax motion. If a depth image is available, a window-based feature map is maintained to compute the RGB-D odometry, which is then fused with inertial outputs in an extended Kalman filter framework. Flight results from the indoor and outdoor environments, as well as public datasets, demonstrate the improved navigation performance of the proposed approach.

Effect of air temperature in indoor transition spaces on the thermal response of occupant during summer.

During the hot summer months, the significant temperature disparity between outdoor and indoor air-conditioned spaces can lead to thermal discomfort and pose a potential health risk. Transition areas such as corridors and elevator lobbies, serving as intermediary zones connecting indoors and outdoors, have been found effective in mitigating this thermal discomfort. In this study, three different temperatures (25 °C-case 1, 27 °C-case 2, and 29 °C-case 3) were employed to investigate the dynamic physiological regulation and thermal perception response of individuals when transitioning from an outdoor environment into an indoor neutral room through a transition space.

We investigated the amount and distribution of waste generated by commercial tobacco, electronic cigarette, and cannabis (TEC) use to inform policy options aimed at mitigating the environmental harm caused by these products. Using disproportionate stratified random sampling, we selected 60 census blocks from the eight largest cities in San Diego County, California. We twice surveyed publicly accessible areas in these blocks to quantify TEC waste accumulation and its re-accumulation.

Biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) mulch has been developed to replace conventional polyethylene (PE) mulch in agriculture to reduce plastic pollution and the accumulation of microplastics (MPs) in soil.
