Dream Enactment Behaviour in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Eur J Psychotraumatol

Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, Danish Center for Sleep Medicine, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Sleep disturbances are widely reported in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Although Dream Enactment Behaviour (DEB) has long been associated with PTSD, its high prevalence has only recently been recognized, sparking discussions about the classification of trauma-related sleep disorders. The impact of DEB on treatment outcomes in PTSD remains unexplored.

The time of and the afterlife of apartheid trauma.

This article explores the concept of transgenerational trauma. I draw from two distinct archives to approach the "transgenerational" in a more nuanced manner - one that moves beyond a linear past-to-present trajectory. The first of these is the Freudian archive, where I revisit the concept of to shed light on the temporal dynamics between past and present, particularly in the affective responses of young black students during interactions with their white peers.

Coordinated Interactions between the Hippocampus and Retrosplenial Cortex in Spatial Memory.

While a hippocampal-cortical dialogue is generally thought to mediate memory consolidation, which is crucial for engram function, how it works remains largely unknown. Here, we examined the interplay of neural signals from the retrosplenial cortex (RSC), a neocortical region, and from the hippocampus in memory consolidation by simultaneously recording sharp-wave ripples (SWRs) of dorsal hippocampal CA1 and neural signals of RSC in free-moving mice during the delayed spatial alternation task (DSAT) and subsequent sleep. Hippocampal-RSC coordination during SWRs was identified in nonrapid eye movement (NREM) sleep, reflecting neural reactivation of decision-making in the task, as shown by a peak reactivation strength within SWRs.

Replayed reef sounds induce settlement of Favia fragum coral larvae in aquaria and field environmentsa).

JASA Express Lett

October 2024

Biology, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, Massachusetts 02543, USA.

Acoustic cues of healthy reefs are known to support critical settlement behaviors for one reef-building coral, but acoustic responses have not been demonstrated in additional species. Settlement of Favia fragum larvae in response to replayed coral reef soundscapes were observed by exposing larvae in aquaria and reef settings to playback sound treatments for 24-72 h. Settlement increased under 24 h sound treatments in both experiments.

Reactivating cue approached positive personality traits during sleep promotes positive self-referential processing.

iScience

Department of Psychology and The State Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China.

People preferentially endorse positive personality traits as more self-descriptive than negative ones, a positivity self-referential bias. Here, we investigated how to enhance positive self-referential processing, integrating wakeful cue-approach training task (CAT) and sleep-based targeted memory reactivation (TMR). In the CAT, participants gave speeded motor responses to cued positive personality traits.
