Two new polyisoprenylated benzophenones, planchoniones A () and B (), together with two known benzophenones () and six known xanthones (), were isolated from an ethyl acetate extract of the pericarp of Pierre. Their structures were established using spectroscopic methods, mainly 1D and 2D NMR. The four benzophenones were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against MCF-7 human breast cancer cells, and showed almost no activity. Meanwhile, compounds - were investigated for their inhibitory effects towards α-glucosidase, and γ-mangostin (5) exhibited the most remarkable effect with IC value of 15.3 ± 0.9 µM (compared with acarbose, IC = 224.9 ± 3.6 µM).

Gastrointestinal cancers continue to pose a significant global health challenge, with millions of new cases diagnosed each year. Despite advancements in treatment, the prognosis for many patients remains poor. This article explores the potential of garcinol, a polyisoprenylated benzophenone found in various Garcinia species, as a therapeutic agent against gastrointestinal malignancies.

There are multiple published data showing that excessive oxidative stress contributes to bone loss and even bone tissue damage, and it is also correlated with the pathophysiology of bone degenerative diseases, including osteoporosis (OP). Garcinol, a polyisoprenylated benzophenone derivative, has been recently established as an anti-oxidant agent. However, it remains elusive whether Garcinol protects bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and bone tissue from oxidative stress-induced damage.

Garcinol (GAR) is a polyisoprenylated benzophenone obtained from Garcinia indica used as anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory in traditional medicine and due to these activities, it possesses anticancer properties. It is considered to be a next generation epigenetic drug. A green solvent based analytical method which is efficient, sophisticated, and highly enriched has been developed for the quantitative analysis of GAR in biological samples (plasma, liver, kidney and spleen) with the use of deep eutectic solvent (DES) for its extraction.
