The present study reports a systematic analysis of a wide variety of structural, thermodynamic, and dynamic properties of supercritical water along the near-critical isotherm of = 1.03 and up to extreme pressures, using molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations. The methodology employed provides solid evidence about the existence of a structural transition from a liquidlike fluid to a compressed, tightly packed liquid, in the density and pressure region around 3.4ρ and 1.17 GPa, introducing an alternative approach to locate the crossing of the Frenkel line. Around 8.5 GPa another transition to a face-centered-cubic plastic crystal polymorph with density 5.178ρ is also observed, further confirmed by Gibbs free energy calculations using the two-phase thermodynamic model. The isobaric heat capacity maximum, closely related to the crossing of the Widom line, has also been observed around 0.8ρ, where the local density augmentation is also maximized. Another structural transition has been observed at 0.2ρ, related to the transformation of the fluid to a dilute gas at lower densities. These findings indicate that a near-critical isotherm can be divided into different domains where supercritical water exhibits distinct behavior, ranging from a gaslike one to a plastic crystal one.

Crafting anisotropically epitaxial p-n heterostructures with Z-scheme charge transmission is a promising avenue toward excellent photocatalytic efficiency, yet the large lattice mismatch and diverse crystal growth habits between components have often arisen as a big challenge to this goal. Here, anisotropically epitaxial p-n heterostructures with 19.8% lattice mismatch are obtained via a dynamics-mediated seeded growth tactic under reaction temperature as low as 60 °C.

Sodium-metal batteries (SMBs) using solid-state polymer electrolytes (SPEs) show impressive superiority in energy density and safety. As promising candidates for SPEs, solid-state plastic crystal electrolytes (SPCE) based on succinonitrile (SN) plastic crystal could achieve high ion conductivity and wide voltage window. Nonetheless, the notorious SN decomposition reaction on the electrode/electrolyte interface seriously challenges the stable operation of the battery.

Previous studies have identified three families of knotted phytochrome photoreceptors in cyanobacteria. We describe a fourth type: 'hybrid' phytochromes with putative bilin-binding cysteine residues in both their N-terminal 'knot' extensions and cGMP-phosphodiesterase/adenylate cyclase/FhlA (GAF) domains, which we designate as dual-cysteine bacteriophytochromes (DCBs). Recombinant expression of DCBs in Escherichia coli yields photoactive phycocyanobilin (PCB) adducts with red/far-red photocycles similar to those of the GAF-Cys-containing cyanobacterial phytochromes (Cph1s).

To overcome the barriers often met by traditional ophthalmic formulations, polymeric films can be utilized as an alternative to enhance drug retention duration while managing medication release. In the current investigation, polymeric films made of poly (vinyl) alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (CS) loaded with Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride (M-HCl) and plasticized with Glutaraldehyde were formulated as potential ophthalmic delivery for the treatment of conjunctivitis. The thickness, surface pH, opacity, folding endurance, and % hemolysis were measured, followed by the transparency, microscopy, electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, swelling index, and invitro drug release studies.

In this study, a probabilistic model within the dislotwin constitutive framework of DAMASK (the Düsseldorf Advanced Material Simulation Kit) was established to describe the cyclic loading behaviors of AZ31B magnesium alloys. Considering the detwinning procedure within the twinned region, this newly developed dislocation-twinning-detwinning model was employed to accurately simulate stress-strain behaviors of AZ31B magnesium alloys throughout tension-compression-tension (T-C-T) cycle loading. The investigations revealed that the reduction in yield stress during the reverse loading process was attributed to the active operation of twinning and detwinning modes.
