Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) are rare, and chronic cholestatic diseases that can progress to liver failure. The goals of treatment are to halt the progression of liver disease to cirrhosis and/or liver failure, and alleviate symptoms associated with these diseases. Ursodeoxycholic acid has historically been the first-line treatment of PBC, with obeticholic acid and fibrates used as second-line or adjunctive therapies.

Enzymatically converted chicken bile (CB), prepared by converting taurine deoxycholic acid (TCDCA) to taurine ursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) in CB, possesses various functional activities. But their nutrient composition and safety assessment have not been fully investigated yet. CB was mainly composed of proteins and steroids.

Background: Bile acids play vital roles in control of lipid-, glucose-, and energy metabolism by activating Takeda G protein-coupled receptor 5 (TGR5) and Farnesoid X receptor (FXR), the latter promoting production of the endocrine-acting fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19). Short-term administration of single bile acids has been reported to enhance plasma levels of GLP-1 and to enhance energy expenditure. However, prolonged bile acid supplementation, e.

Targeted drug delivery is an ongoing aspect of scientific research that is expanding through the design of micro- and nanoparticles. In this paper, we focus on spray dried microparticles as carriers for a repurposed lipophilic antioxidant (probucol). We characterise the microparticles and quantify probucol prior to assessing cytotoxicity on both control and cisplatin treated hair cells (known as House Ear Institute-Organ of Corti 1; HEI-OC1).

Herein, we explore the influence of the GM-BA-Takeda G-protein-coupled receptor 5 (TGR5) axis on IBS-D. Twenty-five IBS-D patients and fifteen healthy controls were recruited to perform BA-related metabolic and metagenomic analyses.
