In recent years, Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) Score has become widely recognized as a novel index to evaluate the survival in urological neoplasms patients, especially with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the prognostic value of CONUT score in patients with RCC and UTUC. PubMed, Web of Science and Embase were searched for data on the association between CONUT score and RCC/UTUC prognosis up to July 29, 2021. Duplicates were excluded, and inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied to all abstracts. We sorted out relevant studies and extracted the risk ratios (RRs) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) for recurrence-free survival (RFS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and overall survival (OS). The relationship between gender and survival outcomes was analyzed using univariate cox regression. We analyzed seven studies including 5410 patients in the meta-analysis. A high CONUT score was associated with poor 5-year RFS (RR = 1.27, 95% CI = 1.13-1.43,  = 0.0001), CSS (RR = 1.22, 95% CI = 1.07-1.39,  = 0.003) and OS (RR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.10-1.41,  = 0.0005). As a result, the association between CONUT score and survival was statistically significant. In addition, gender was not related to survival outcomes. Our results show that the CONUT score is associated with RCC and UTUC outcomes and can serve as a readily available biomarker for managing this disease.

Nutrition and inflammation are closely related to prognosis in breast cancer patients. However, current nutritional and inflammatory measures predict disease free survival (DFS) of breast cancer are still different, and the most predictive measures remain unknown. This study aimed to compare the predictive effects of commonly used nutritional and inflammatory measures on DFS and to improve existing nutritional or inflammatory measures in order to develop a new model that is more effective for predicting postoperative recurrence and metastasis in breast cancer patients.

Background: Esophagojejunal anastomotic fistula (EJF) following radical total gastrectomy is a severe perioperative complication in patients with gastric cancer, particularly as delayed fistula healing increases hospitalization costs and leads to poor prognosis. Numerous factors influence the occurrence and progression of EJF, with inflammation and nutritional status being significant contributors to perioperative complications. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prediction of delayed EJF healing based on postoperative clinical and imaging-related inflammation-nutrition status.

: Hemodialysis patients face a high mortality risk, requiring effective clinical assessments. In these patients, muscle wasting due to protein-energy wasting (PEW) leads to increased frailty, which is strongly associated with worse outcomes, including higher mortality. As muscle mass declines, so does functional capacity, making regular assessment of both muscle mass and function critical for prognostic evaluation.

Relationship between controlling nutritional status (CONUT) and surgical site infection (SSI) following elective foot and ankle surgery.

J Foot Ankle Surg

January 2025

Department of Foot and Ankle surgery, Hebei Medical University Third Hospital, No.139 Ziqiang Road, Shijiazhuang 050051, Hebei, China. Electronic address:

This study aims to examine whether the preoperative controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score was associated with SSI following elective foot and ankle surgeries. This study retrospectively reviewed adult undergoing elective foot and ankle surgeries in a tertiary university-affiliated hospital between January 2019 and May 2023, and identified who subsequently developed an SSI within 12 months postoperative. CONUT score was calculated from serum albumin, lymphocyte count, and toral cholesterol concentration, and its optimal cut-off value for differentiating SSI risk was determined by the receiver operating characteristic curve.

Gastrointestinal (GI) involvement is highly prevalent in systemic sclerosis (SSc) and significantly affects patient quality of life and clinical outcomes. This study investigates the potential of undernutrition scores, namely the Control of Nutritional Status (CONUT) score and the Prognostic Nutrition Index (PNI), in predicting GI involvement in patients with SSc. A total of 82 patients diagnosed with SSc were enrolled in this cross-sectional study.
