Positron Emission Tomography (PET) reconstructed image signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can be improved by including the 511 keV photon pair coincidence time-of-flight (TOF) information. The degree of SNR improvement from this TOF capability depends on the coincidence time resolution (CTR) of the PET system, which is essentially the variation in photon arrival time differences over all coincident photon pairs detected for a point positron source placed at the system center. The CTR is determined by several factors including the intrinsic properties of the scintillation crystals and photodetectors, crystal-to-photodetector coupling configurations, reflective materials, and the electronic readout configuration scheme. The goal of the present work is to build a novel TOF-PET system with 100 picoseconds (ps) CTR, which provides an additional factor of 1.5-2.0 improvement in reconstructed image SNR compared to state-of-the-art TOF-PET systems which achieve 225-400 ps CTR. A critical parameter to understand is the optical reflector's influence on scintillation light collection and transit time variations to the photodetector. To study the effects of the reflector covering the scintillation crystal element on CTR, we have tested the performance of four different reflector materials: Enhanced Specular Reflector (ESR) -coupled with air or optical grease to the scintillator; Teflon tape; BaSOpaint alone or mixed with epoxy; and TiOpaint. For the experimental set-up, we made use of 3 × 3 × 10 mmfast-LGSO:Ce scintillation crystal elements coupled to an array of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) using a novel 'side-readout' configuration that has proven to have lower variations in scintillation light collection efficiency and transit time to the photodetector.: show CTR values of 102.0 ± 0.8, 100.2 ± 1.2, 97.3 ± 1.8 and 95.0 ± 1.0 ps full-width-half-maximum (FWHM) with non-calibrated energy resolutions of 10.2 ± 1.8, 9.9 ± 1.2, 7.9 ± 1.2, and 8.6 ± 1.7% FWHM for the Teflon, ESR (without grease), BaSO(without epoxy) and TiOpaint treatments, respectively.

Civil structures are prone to dynamic loadings such as strong winds or ground excitations where torsion becomes an ongoing issue. This arises from a lack of coincidence of the center of mass (CM) and rigidity (CR), known as eccentricity. Seismic design codes often introduce two types of eccentricity: inherent (geometric) and accidental.

Porcine hemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus (PHEV), porcine pseudorabies virus (PRV), and classical swine fever virus (CSFV) are currently prevalent worldwide and cause similar neurological symptoms in infected pigs. It is very important to establish a detection method that can rapidly and accurately detect and differentiate these three viruses. Targeting the PHEV N gene, PRV gB gene, and CSFV 5' untranslated region (5'UTR), three pairs of specific primers and probes were designed, and a triplex crystal digital reverse transcription-PCR (cdRT-PCR) was developed to detect PHEV, PRV, and CSFV.

Time resolution is crucial in positron emission tomography (PET) to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio and image quality. Moreover, high sensitivity requires long scintillators, which can cause distortions in the reconstructed images due to parallax effects. This study evaluates the performance of a time-of-flight (TOF)-PET module that makes use of a single-side readout of a 4x4 3.

To achieve rapid and simultaneous detection of NoV GI, NoV GII, and HAV, a quadruple real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) assay was developed using MS2 bacteriophage as a process control virus. The quadruple RT-qPCR assay effectively detected NoV GI, NoV GII, HAV, and MS2 RNA with detection limits of 10 copies/μL, 10 copies/μL, 10 copies/μL, and 10 copies/μL, respectively, within 1 hour 50 minutes. The quadruple RT-qPCR assay could specifically detect NoV GI, NoV GII, HAV, and MS2 without cross-reactions with other common pathogens, demonstrating good reproducibility with intra-assay and inter-assay coefficients of variation all below 2.

This study demonstrates a rich complexity of the time-frequency ionospheric signal spectrum, dependent on the measurement type and platform. Different phenomena contributing to satellite-derived and ground-derived geophysical data that only selected signal bands can be potentially sensitive to seismicity over time, and they are applicable in lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere coupling (LAIC) studies. In this study, satellite-derived and ground-derived ionospheric observations are filtered by a Fourier-based band-pass filter, and an experimental selection of potentially sensitive frequency bands has been carried out.
