Seventeen laboratories participated in three interlaboratory exercises to assess the performance of refractive index, micro X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (μXRF), and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) data for the forensic comparison of glass samples. Glass fragments from automotive windshields were distributed to the participating labs as blind samples and participants were asked to compare the glass samples (known vs. questioned) and report their findings as they would in casework. For samples that originated from the same source, the overall correct rate was greater than 92% for each of the three techniques (refractive index, μXRF, and LIBS). For samples that originated from different vehicles, an overall correct rate of 82%, 96%, and 87% was observed for refractive index, μXRF, and LIBS, respectively. Special attention was given to the reporting language used by practitioners as well as the use of verbal scales and/or databases to assign a significance to the evidence. Wide variations in the reported conclusions exist between different laboratories, demonstrating a need for the standardization of the reporting language used by practitioners. Moreover, few labs used a verbal scale and/or a database to provide a weight to the evidence. It is recommended that forensic practitioners strive to incorporate the use of a verbal scale and/or a background database, if available, to provide a measure of significance to glass forensic evidence (i.e., the strength of an association or exclusion).

In this study, we present novel, vitrimeric and biobased scaffolds that are designed for hard tissue applications, composed of acrylated, epoxidized soybean oil (AESO) and reinforced with bioactive glass that is Tellurium doped (BG-Te) and BG-Te silanized, to tune the mechanical and antibacterial properties. The manufacture's method consisted of a DLP 3D-printing method, enabling precise resolution and the possibility to manufacture a hollow and complex structure. The resin formulation was optimized with a biobased, reactive diluent to adjust the viscosity for an optimal 3D-printing process.

In this work, twin-screw extruder and compression moulding techniques were utilized to fabricate polymer blends: polypropylene (PP), polybutadiene (PB), and composites using glass fibre (GF) and flax fibre (FF). During fabrication, the polymer ratios maintained between PP and PB were 90:10, 80:20, and 70:30. Likewise, the composites were fabricated by varying the ratios between the PP, PB, and GF, which were 90PP:10PB:10GF, 80PP:20PB:10GF, and 70PP:30PB:10GF.

Tan Delta reflects the viscoelastic behavior of materials, particularly polymers. In most cases, a high Tan Delta value is associated with transitions (such as glass transition or melting), enabling effective damping properties near these temperature ranges. However, achieving a high Tan Delta over a broad temperature range is challenging, particularly for engineering applications that involve significant temperature fluctuations.

The mechanical properties of lignin, an aromatic heteropolymer constituting 20-30% plant biomass, are important to the fabrication and processing of lignin-based sustainable polymeric materials. In this study, atomistic simulations are performed to provide microscopic insights into the mechanics of lignin. Representative samples of miscanthus, spruce, and birch lignin are studied.

Investigating the impact of textile structure reinforcement on the mechanical characteristics of polymer composites produced by the compression molding technique was the goal of this work. An epoxy resin system served as the matrix, and various woven (plain, twill, basket), nonwoven (mat), and unidirectional (UD) textile structures made from E-glass fibers were employed as reinforcement elements. Compression molding of pre-impregnated textile materials (prepregs) was used to create the composites.
