Design and fabrication of xylan-graft-poly (methyl methacrylate) thermoplastic via SARA ATRP.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Beijing Key Laboratory of Lignocellulosic Chemistry, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China; State Key Laboratory of Efficient Production of Forest Resources, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China. Electronic address:

Due to the emphasis on the environmental and health issues caused by petroleum-based plastics, renewable lignocellulosic materials emerge as promising substitutes. However, their practical application remains hindered by unsatisfactory properties such as fragility and sensitivity to water. Dealing with the challenge of non-thermal processing of xylan and addressing the issue of performance degradation resulting from the hygroscopicity of materials.

The effect of PEO/NaCl dual porogens in the fabrication of porous PCL membranes via a solid-state blending approach.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Industrial Engineering Department, School of Applied Technical Sciences, German Jordanian University, Amman, 11180, Jordan.

In this investigation, the influence of a combination of poly(ethylene-oxide) (PEO) and salt (NaCl) as water-soluble porogens on the synthesis of sustainable porous poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) membranes is explored. Nine mixture compositions are examined. PCL sheets are fabricated through the cryomilling, hot pressing, and porogen leaching approach.

Aqueous zinc ion batteries exhibit great prospects due to their low cost and high safety, while their lifespan is limited by severe dendritic growth problems. Herein, we develop an anti-dendrite hot-pressing separator interlayer through a mass-producible hot-pressing strategy, by spreading metal-organic framework (MOF) precursor on nonwoven matrix followed by a simple hot-pressing process. The in situ modification of MOF crystals on fiber surface processes abundant nitrogenous functional groups and high specific surface area (190.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed a radiative cooling textile (PAC@T) inspired by flamingo feathers, using polyacrylonitrile and alumina particles to enhance cooling and comfort.
  • PAC@T achieves high solar reflectance (95%) and mid-infrared emissivity (91.8%), resulting in effective cooling that is 6.1°C cooler than traditional textiles.
  • The textile is made from common materials and offers advantages like durability and energy-free operation, posing significant potential for future industrial applications in personal thermoregulation.

Birch-Bark-Inspired Synergistic Fabrication of High-Performance Cellulosic Materials.

ACS Sustain Resour Manag

December 2024

FSCN Research Center, Organic Chemistry, Mid Sweden University, Holmgatan 10, 851 70 Sundsvall, Sweden.

There is a growing demand for the utilization of sustainable materials, such as cellulose-based alternatives, over fossil-based materials. However, the inherent drawbacks of cellulosic materials, such as extremely low wet strength and resistance to moisture, need significant improvements. Moreover, several of the commercially available wet-strength chemicals and hydrophobic agents for cellulosic material treatment are toxic or fossil-based (e.
