α-Substituted peroxides have been found in natural products and are widely used as anti-malarial agents. Zn(OTf) -catalyzed peroxidation of 1,3,5-triazines has been developed, accessing diversely substituted α-amino tertiary alkylperoxides with high efficiency. Mechanistic investigations and useful synthetic application of the products have also been presented.

Unlabelled: In living systems the most frequent type of genetic mutation is the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). Non-synonymous SNPs (nsSNPs) or missense mutations arise in coding regions of a particular gene. nsSNPs result in a single amino acid substitution which may have effects on the structure and/or function of proteins.

Two independent studies have shown that the cell wall of pollen tubes from tobacco and tomato species contained fucosylated xyloglucan (XyG). These findings are intriguing as many reports have shown that XyG of somatic cells of these species is not fucosylated but instead is arabinosylated. In order to produce fucosylated XyG, plants must express a functional galactoside α-2-fucosyltransferase.

High throughput fine specificity determination remains technically challenging. We review recent experiences aimed at revisiting the oldest and most extended display technology to develop a robust epitope mapping platform, based on the ability to manipulate target-derived molecules (ranging from the whole native antigen to antigen domains and smaller fragments) on filamentous phages.

The chicken anaemia virus protein 3 (VP3 or apoptin) induces apoptosis specifically in tumour and transformed cells but not in normal cells. This selective apoptosis is ideal for therapeutic purposes. However, VP3, a heterologous protein, is immunogenic in vivo.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDnmt3a1 and Dnmt3a2 are two de novo DNA methyltransferases expressed in mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs). They differ in that a 219-amino-acid (aa) amino (N)-terminal noncatalytic domain is present only in Dnmt3a1. Here, we examined the unique functions of Dnmt3a1 in mESCs by targeting the coding sequence of the Dnmt3a1 N-terminal domain tagged with enhanced green fluorescent protein (GFP) for insertion into the mouse Rosa26 locus.
