Tumor burden with AFP improves survival prediction for TACE-treated patients with HCC: An international observational study.

JHEP Rep

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Holistic Integrative Management of Gastrointestinal Cancers and National Clinical Research Center for Digestive Diseases, Xijing Hospital of Digestive Diseases, Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, China.

Background & Aims: Current prognostic models for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) are not extensively validated and widely accepted. We aimed to develop and validate a continuous model incorporating tumor burden and biology for individual survival prediction and risk stratification.

Methods: Overall, 4,377 treatment-naive candidates for whom TACE was recommended, from 39 centers in five countries, were enrolled and divided into training, internal validation, and two external validation datasets.

Dengue virus IgG and neutralizing antibody titers measured with standard and mature viruses are protective.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Viral Epidemiology and Immunity Unit, Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

The standard dengue virus (DENV) neutralization assay inconsistently predicts dengue protection. We compare how IgG ELISA, envelope domain III (EDIII), or non-structural protein 1 (NS1) binding antibodies, and titers from plaque reduction neutralization tests (PRNTs) using standard and mature viruses are associated with dengue. The ELISA measures IgG antibodies that bind to inactivated DENV1-4.

Detection of inflammation in abdominal aortic aneurysm with reduced field-of-view and low-b-value diffusion-weighted imaging.

Magn Reson Imaging

Department of Radiology, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, No.180 Fenglin Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai 200032, China; Shanghai Institute of Medical Imaging, No.180 Fenglin Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai 200032, China. Electronic address:

Objectives: To evaluate the performance of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) with an optimal b-value and field-of-view in identifying wall inflammation in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) by comparing it to delayed enhancement T1-weighted imaging (DEI).

Methods: Twenty-five males with AAA were prospectively enrolled and underwent fat-suppressed T1-weighted dark-blood imaging (T1WI), full field-of-view (f-FOV) and reduced field-of-view (r-FOV) DWI (b values = 0, 100, 400 and 800 s/mm), and DEI. Corresponding images on f-FOV, r-FOV DWI and DEI at the same level were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively using the paired t-test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test.

Background: Rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening emergency, with untreated cases nearing a 100% mortality rate. This case presents a rare complication of AAA rupture with an infected retroperitoneal hematoma, emphasizing the importance of timely diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach.

Case Presentation: A 59-year-old male presented with lower back pain, fever, and difficulty moving, persisting for three weeks.

The stochastic rupture risk assessment of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) critically depends on sufficient data set size that would allow for the proper distribution estimate. However, in most published cases, the data sets comprise no more than 100 samples, which is deemed insufficient to describe the tails of AAA wall thickness distribution correctly. In this study, we propose a stochastic Bayesian model to merge thickness data from various groups.
