We use a two-stage hierarchical growth method to encapsulate the blue KSN and yellow RhB molecules into a MOF crystal. By aligning these two conjugate plane-structured molecules in the MOF channel, a polarised white-light emission is obtained, with CIE coordinates of (0.3285, 0.3204) and a polarization ratio of 2.98.

The corrugated <110> oriented layered metal halide perovskites (MHP) are gaining increased attention for a variety of properties including intrinsic white light emission. One prototypical candidate is 1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole lead bromide, which was reported to crystallize as the <110> oriented perovskite (API)PbBr [API = 1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole]. This work shows that under similar reaction conditions, the same components can instead form (API)PbBr, which has a "perovskitoid" structure.

Drug-assisted White Light Generation via Self-assembly.

Chem Asian J

January 2025

IISER Bhopal Department of Chemistry, Chemistry, Indore By-pass Road, Bhauri, 462066, Bhopal, INDIA.

White-light generation using small organic molecules has gained significant attention from researchers working on the interface of supramolecular chemistry and organic materials. Self-assembled multi-chromophoric materials utilizing a drug molecule and microenvironment-sensitive intramolecular charge transfer dye as an emitter offer the possibility of tunable emission. In this investigation, we focused on white light generation via the combination of a polarity-sensitive red-emitting styryl chromone (SC) and a blue-emitting anticancer and psychotherapeutic drug Norharmane (NHM) in a self-assembled micellar system.

A chiral agent, TPE-ASP, incorporating aspartic acid as the chiral source and tetraphenylene derivatives as chromophores, was designed and synthesized. The chiral agent was self-assembled into regular spherical nanoparticles with a maximum luminescence asymmetry factor of |2.41 × 10| at 460 nm which is attributed to TPE-ASP.

Direct manipulation of light spin-angular momentum is desired in optoelectronic applications such as, displays, telecommunications, or imaging. Generating polarized light from luminophores avoids using optical components that cause brightness losses and hamper on-chip integration of light sources. Endowing chirality to achiral emitters for direct generation of polarized light benefits from existing materials and can be achieved by chiral nanophotonics.

Photo-Induced Radical Generation of Supramolecular Gel with Sign-Inverted and White-Light Circularly Polarized Luminescence.

Small Methods

January 2025

Beijing National Laboratory of Molecular Sciences and CAS Key Laboratory of Colloid, Interface and Thermodynamics, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, North First Street 2, Zhongguancun, Beijing, 100190, China.

The realization of persistent luminescence and in particular circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) of organic radicals remains a challenge due to their sensitivity to oxygen at ambient conditions and elusive excited state chirality control. Here, it is reported that UV-irradiation on a supramolecular gel from a chiral triarylamine derivative, TPA-Ala, led to the formation of luminescent radicals with bright CPL. TPA-Ala can form an organogel in chloroform with blue emission and supramolecular chirality as demonstrated by both CD and CPL signals.
