Aim: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and feasibility of superficial corneal opacities treated by excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) combined with small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE)-derived corneal stromal lenticule transplantation.
Methods: A retrospective interventional case series of nine patients aged 12-59y with superficial corneal opacity caused by different pathologies who underwent standardized PTK combined with SMILE-derived corneal stromal lenticule transplantation was examined. Lenticule patches were fixed with fibrin glue.

Allogeneic modified bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (hMSC-SB623 cells) are in clinical development for the treatment of chronic motor deficits after traumatic brain injury and cerebral ischemic stroke. However, their exact mechanisms of action remain unclear. Here, we investigated the effects of this cell therapy on cortical network excitability, brain tissue and peripheral blood at a chronic stage after ischemic stroke in a rat model.

Monoclonal gammopathies of clinical significance (MGCS) are a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by the presence of an indolent B-cell or plasma-cell clone producing a toxic monoclonal immunoglobulin resulting in end-organ dysfunction. MGCS is a clinicopathologic diagnosis that requires the demonstration of a monoclonal immunoglobulin in the correct clinical setting. The most common MGCS syndromes are renal, neurologic, and cutaneous, although hematologic and multi-organ MGCS syndromes are also increasingly recognized.
