Municipal sewage sludge, a by-product of wastewater treatment plants, presents environmental challenges due to its complex composition. Particular concern is the lipophilic and aliphatic compounds that pose risks to the environment and human health. This study focuses on the efficient removal of those compounds from sewage sludge using several organic solvents (hexane, toluene, chloroform, dichloromethane, acetone, hexane-methanol mixture, ethanol, and methanol) and ionic liquids (ILs) like tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium chloride and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate by solvent extraction techniques.

The ruminant microbiome plays a key role in the health, feed utilization and environmental impact of ruminant production systems. Microbiome research provides insights to reduce the environmental footprint and improve meat and milk production from ruminants. However, the microbiome composition depends on the ruminant species, habitat and diet, highlighting the importance of having a good representation of ruminant microbiomes in their local environment to translate research findings into beneficial approaches.

In this study, an iron metal-organic framework (Fe-MOF) was synthesized and immobilized by electrospinning technique with the objective of obtaining a membrane composed of nanofibers of this material (Fe-MOF nanofiber membrane). The characterization performed by XRD, TEM, SEM, EDS mapping and FTIR confirmed the correct synthesis of Fe-MOF as well as its correct retention in the elaborated membranes. The usefulness and effectiveness of the Fe-MOF nanofiber membrane as a catalyst for the electro-Fenton process was evaluated by performing sulfamethoxazole degradation tests.

Introduction: The reuse of clinical data from clinical routine is a topic of research within the field of medical informatics under the term secondary use. In order to ensure the correct use and interpretation of data, there is a need for context information of data collection and a general understanding of the data. The use of metadata as an effective method of defining and maintaining context is well-established, particularly in the field of clinical trials.
