Investigate whether sleep reactivity was associated with social anxiety and disordered-eating behaviors in a college population. One hundred ninety-eight college-age men and women. Participants completed self-report measures of social anxiety, disordered-eating behaviors and sleep reactivity. Sleep reactivity was associated with greater dietary restriction and purging, controlling for social anxiety but it was not associated with binge eating. Sleep reactivity was associated with elevated symptoms of social anxiety, controlling for disordered-eating behaviors. The results suggest that sleep reactivity represents a shared correlate of disordered-eating behaviors and social anxiety that may partially explain their co-occurrence. Interventions to help college students high in sleep reactivity effectively manage stress and regulate their sleep may aid in the prevention and treatment of social anxiety and disordered-eating behaviors.

Background: Personalized approaches to behavior change to improve mental and physical health outcomes are needed. Reducing the intensity, duration, and frequency of stress responses is a mechanism for interventions to improve health behaviors. We developed an ambulatory, dynamic stress measurement approach that can identify personalized stress responses in the moments and contexts in which they occur; we propose that intervening in these stress responses as they arise (ie, just in time; JIT) will result in positive impacts on health behaviors.

Objective: Although studies have examined changes in C-reactive protein (CRP) during pulmonary exacerbations (PEX) in people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF), few have evaluated CRP profiles across age groups. Here, we characterize age-related CRP responses to PEX treatment.

Methods: We measured CRP concentrations at the beginning and end of intravenous (IV) antibiotic therapy for PEX in 100 pediatric and 147 adult PwCF at 10 US CF Centers.

Sleep-disordered breathing and cardiometabolic and inflammatory markers in children with overweight/obesity: The role of cardiorespiratory fitness.

Pediatr Obes

January 2025

Department of Physical Education and Sports, Faculty of Sport Sciences, Sport and Health University Research Institute (iMUDS), University of Granada, Granada, Spain.

Objectives: To investigate the association of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) severity with cardiometabolic and inflammatory markers independently of the adiposity levels; and to explore the role of cardiorespiratory fitness in these associations in children with overweight/obesity.

Methods: A total of 109 children aged 8-11 years with overweight/obesity were included in this cross-sectional study. SDB was assessed using a scale of the reduce version of the Paediatric Sleep Questionnaire.

Doxorubicin (DOXO) is a primary treatment for breast cancer but can cause cardiotoxicity in over 25% of patients within the first year post-chemotherapy. Recognizing at-risk patients before DOXO initiation offers pathways for alternative treatments or early protective actions. We analyzed data from 78 Brazilian breast cancer patients, with 34.

Perioperative respiratory complications in intracapsular tonsillectomy and total tonsillectomy: Is there a difference?

Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol

January 2025

Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital, Houston, TX, 77030, USA. Electronic address:

Purpose: The primary objective was to determine any difference in perioperative respiratory complications in children undergoing intracapsular tonsillectomy versus those undergoing total tonsillectomy for sleep-disordered breathing or obstructive sleep apnea.

Methods: All children undergoing total tonsillectomy from November 2015 to December 2017 and intracapsular tonsillectomy from May 2016 to July 2020 for sleep-disordered breathing or obstructive sleep apnea were included in the study.

Results: 2408 patients underwent total tonsillectomy whereas 410 patients underwent intracapsular tonsillectomy.
