Habitat fragmentation increases the risk of local extinction of small reptiles: A case study on Phrynocephalus przewalskii.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

January 2025

Gansu Key Laboratory of Biomonitoring and Bioremediation for Environmental Pollution, School of Life Sciences, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou 730000, China. Electronic address:

Habitat fragmentation represents a multifaceted global conservation threat, exerting both direct and indirect effects on individual animals and communities. Reptiles, particularly smaller species with limited migratory abilities, are especially vulnerable to these changes. This study examines how small reptiles adapt their life history strategies in fragmented habitats and determines whether their responses are primarily due to phenotypic plasticity or genetic adaptation.

Exposure to high-temperature and high-humidity environments associated with cardiovascular mortality.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

January 2025

Chinese Medicine Guangdong Laboratory, Hengqin 519031, China; State Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndrome, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou 510006, China. Electronic address:

Aging populations are susceptible to climate change due to physiological factors and comorbidities. Most relevant studies reported the effect of temperature on cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related mortality in aging populations. However, the combined effects of temperature and humidity on CVD-related mortality remain unclear.

Objective: Creating an intracortical brain-computer interface (iBCI) capable of seamless transitions between tasks and contexts would greatly enhance user experience. However, the nonlinearity in neural activity presents challenges to computing a global iBCI decoder. We aimed to develop a method that differs from a globally optimized decoder to address this issue.

This work explores an intelligent field irrigation warning system based on the Enhanced Genetic Algorithm-Backpropagation Neural Network (EGA-BPNN) model in the context of smart agriculture. To achieve this, irrigation flow prediction in agricultural fields is chosen as the research topic. Firstly, the BPNN principles are studied, revealing issues such as sensitivity to initial values, susceptibility to local optima, and sample dependency.
