The reduction of carboxylic acids to the respective alcohols, in mild conditions, was achieved using [MnBr(CO)] as the catalyst and bench stable PhSiH as the reducing agent. It was shown that the reaction with the earth-abundant metal catalyst could be performed either with a catalyst loading as low as 0.5 mol %, rare with the use of [MnBr(CO)], or on a gram scale employing only 1.5 equiv of PhSiH, the lowest amount of silane reported to date for this transformation. Kinetic data and control experiments have provided initial insight into the mechanism of the catalytic process, suggesting that it proceeds via the formation of silyl ester intermediates and ligand dissociation to generate a coordinatively unsaturated Mn(I) complex as the active species.

To efficiently capture, activate, and transform small molecules, metalloenzymes have evolved to integrate a well-organized pocket around the active metal center. Within this cavity, second coordination sphere functionalities are precisely positioned to optimize the rate, selectivity, and energy cost of catalytic reactions. Inspired by this strategy, an artificial distal pocket defined by a preorganized 3D strap is introduced on an iron-porphyrin catalyst (sc-Fe) for the CO-to-CO electrocatalytic reduction.

The reduction of carboxylic esters to aldehydes and alcohols is a fundamental functional group transformation in chemistry. However, the inertness of carbonyl group and the instability of ketyl radical anion intermediate impede the reduction of carboxylic esters via photochemical strategy. Herein, we described the reduction of aliphatic carboxylic esters with synergistic dual photocatalysis via phenolate-catalyzed single electron transfer process and thiol-catalyzed hydrogen atom transfer process.

(Mp), a unique pathogen devoid of a cell wall, is naturally impervious to penicillin antibiotics. This bacterium is the causative agent of pneumonia, an acute pulmonary affliction marked by interstitial lung damage. Non-macrolide medications may have potential adverse effects on the developmental trajectory of children, thereby establishing macrolides as the preferred treatment for in pediatric patients.

Nitroarenes are highly versatile building blocks in organic synthesis, playing a pivotal role in various reactions. Common transformations involving nitroarenes include nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SAr) reactions, where the nitro group functions both as a potent electron-withdrawing group that activates the aromatic ring and as a leaving group facilitating the substitution. Additionally, the direct transformation of nitro groups, such as reduction-driven syntheses of amines and carboxylic acids, as well as -substitution SAr reactions, have been extensively explored.

Leaf photosynthesis and respiration are two of the largest carbon fluxes between the atmosphere and biosphere. Although experiments examining the warming effects on photosynthetic and respiratory thermal acclimation have been widely conducted, the sensitivity of various ecosystem and vegetation types to warming remains uncertain. Here we conducted a meta-analysis on experimental observations of thermal acclimation worldwide.
