AI Article Synopsis

  • A new catalytic method using N-Heterocyclic carbenes has been created for adding trichloromethyl and acyl groups to alkenes, utilizing tetrachloromethane and aldehydes.
  • The process involves a single electron transfer step, converting a Breslow intermediate's enolate form to a ketyl radical and a temporary trichloromethyl radical.
  • This results in the trichloromethyl radical reacting with the alkene, with the alkyl radical favorably being captured by the ketyl radical, yielding a product through atom transfer radical addition.

Article Abstract

N-Heterocyclic carbene catalysis enabling vicinal trichloromethylacylation of alkenes using tetrachloromethane and aldehydes has been developed. The reaction involves single electron transfer from the enolate form of the Breslow intermediate to tetrachloromethane to generate the persistent Breslow intermediate-derived ketyl radical and a transient trichloromethyl radical. After radical addition of the trichloromethyl radical to an alkene, the prolonged alkyl radical is preferentially captured by the ketyl radical over tetrachloromethane leading to the atom transfer radical addition product.

Zeolites are a large family of minerals and the most studied is the naturally occurring clinoptilolite. They possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and detoxifying properties which makes them valuable for medicinal use. Element analysis of zeolite's composition is necessary for its precise chemical characterization, and within this work development of a suspension method for the determination of manga nese, iron, and zinc by total reflection X-ray fluorescence spec-trometry (TXRF) was presented.

Purpose: This study aims to show the impact of multimodal intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IOM) in glioma surgery in preventing severe neurologic injury and increasing tumor removal by comparing the historical cases where IOM was not used.

Methods: Fifty-nine patients with glial tumors located nearby the eloquent area, operated by the same surgeon, were included in the study. Between 2008 and 2012, 21 patients were operated on without IOM (non-IOM); between 2018 and 2021, 38 patients were operated on with IOM.

The histories of the global anti-apartheid struggle, and particularly the British Anti-Apartheid Movement (AAM), have predominantly been examined through a transnational and national prism, creating an inaccurate impression of a highly centralized and homogeneous movement. We argue, however, that refining the analysis to focus on the local setting reveals a more complex and diverse movement, which has not been fully captured in the existing scholarship. Using Dundee as a case study, this article charts the emergence, character, and evolution of anti-apartheid sentiment and activity in this small, peripheral industrial Scottish city.

Case: We outline the management of a 10-month-old girl with an Ewing sarcoma involving the entire radius. The patient was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy resulting in almost a complete response. A limb-sparing procedure was performed consisting of a radical resection of the entire radius and centralization of the carpus to the ulna.

The objective of this study was the develop of fortified cookies enriched with oats flour and bitter gourd powder and monitoring the effects of these enrichments on the physicochemical, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and sensory attributes. This study was subjected to four treatments: control (0% oats flour and bitter gourd powder), T1 (10% oats flour), T2 (3% bitter gourd powder), and T3 (7% oats flour and 3% bitter gourd powder). Various physical properties of the cookies, including weight, thickness, diameter, spread ratio, baking loss, pH, and color values (L*, a*, and b*), were measured.
