Non-Optic Glioma-like Lesions in Adult Neurofibromatosis Type 1 Patients.

Diagnostics (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Neuro-Oncology/Neurology, Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, 3015 GD Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Physicians face clinical dilemmas in the diagnosis of non-optic intraparenchymal lesions on MRI brain scans of patients with neurofibromatosis type 1. As the incidence and evolution of these lesions into adulthood remain unclear, we conducted a retrospective study on this topic. All adult neurofibromatosis type 1 patients who had at least one MRI brain scan in our center were selected for this study.

Background: We examined chronic gadolinium retention impact on gene expression in the mouse central nervous system (CNS) after injection of linear or macrocyclic gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs).

Methods: From 05/2022 to 07/2023, 36 female mice underwent weekly intraperitoneal injections of gadodiamide (2.5 mmol/kg, linear), gadobutrol (2.

Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are tangles of abnormal vessels with early arteriovenous (AV) shunting that can lead to intracerebral hemorrhage, seizures, neurologic deficit, or headache. To date, only a few cases of carcinomas metastasizing to pre-existing cerebral AVMs have been reported in the literature. However, renal clear cell carcinoma (RCC) brain metastases that exhibit early AV shunting, where AVM pathology is not present, are extremely rare.

Oxidative stress and neuroinflammation play a pivotal role in pathomechanisms of brain ischemia. Our research aimed to formulate a nanotheranostic system for delivering carnosic acid as a neuroprotective agent with anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties to ischemic brain tissue, mimicked by organotypic hippocampal cultures (OHCs) exposed to oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD). In the first part of this study, the nanocarriers were formulated by encapsulating two types of nanocores (nanoemulsion (AOT) and polymeric (PCL)) containing CA into multilayer shells using the sequential adsorption of charged nanoobjects method.

A 70-year-old man experienced an epileptic seizure. Subsequent MRI performed on close examination revealed high signal in the left occipital cortex on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery. Gadolinium contrast indicated enhancement along the cortex.
