Major fetal anomalies (MFA) are a known risk factor for preterm birth (PTB), though the etiology of this is not well-studied, making counseling of these patients difficult. Thus, we sought to describe the rate of recurrent PTB in a second-observed pregnancy among persons with a history of PTB of an infant with a MFA in a first observed pregnancy, and to assess the difference in delivery timing between the first- and second-observed pregnancy. This was a retrospective cohort study of patients with a first-observed pregnancy complicated by MFA and a second-observed pregnancy in single healthcare system between 2013 and 2017. The primary outcome was recurrent PTB (PTB in second-observed pregnancy) and secondary outcomes were recurrent spontaneous PTB (SPTB), delivery gestational age (GA) in second-observed pregnancy, and difference in delivery GA between the first- and second-observed pregnancy. Recurrent PTB in the setting of prior PTB complicated by an MFA is common (∼1/4 patients), though median delivery timing for individuals who delivered preterm in the first-observed pregnancy was 6 weeks later in the second-observed pregnancy. These data suggest that PTB in the setting of MFA is a comparable risk factor to PTB in the absence of MFA.

Objective: Attention for recurrent preterm delivery has primarily focused on spontaneous subtypes with less known about indicated preterm delivery.
Study Design: In a retrospective cohort of consecutive pregnancies among 51,086 women in Utah (2002-2010), binary relative risk regression was performed to examine the risk of preterm delivery (PTD; <37 weeks) in the second observed delivery by PTD in the first, adjusting for maternal age, race/ethnicity, prepregnancy body mass index, insurance, smoking, alcohol and/or drug use, and chronic disease. Analyses were also performed stratified by prior preterm delivery subtype: spontaneous, indicated, or no recorded indication.

The safety and efficiency of fetal adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene delivery in rhesus monkeys and long-term monitoring of transgene expression by bioluminescence imaging (BLI) were evaluated. Early second-trimester fetal monkeys were administered AAV2/5, AAV2/9, or AAV2/10 vector supernatant preparations expressing firefly luciferase under the control of the cytomegalovirus promoter, using an intrathoracic (n = 6) or intramyocardial (n = 6) approach and established ultrasound-guided techniques. Postnatal BLI was performed monthly up to 6 months postnatal age (n = 12) and then every 3 months thereafter to monitor transgene expression up to 24 months postnatal age (27 months after gene transfer; n = 6).

Ovarian follicle development continues in a wave-like manner during the bovine oestrous cycle giving rise to variation in the duration of ovulatory follicle development. The objectives of the present study were to determine whether a relationship exists between the duration of ovulatory follicle development and pregnancy rates following artificial insemination (AI) in dairy cows undergoing spontaneous oestrous cycles, and to identify factors influencing follicle turnover and pregnancy rate and the relationship between these two variables. Follicle development was monitored by daily transrectal ultrasonography from 10 days after oestrus until the subsequent oestrus in 158 lactating dairy cows.
