AI Article Synopsis

  • Integration in medical education aims to combine various scientific disciplines to enhance learning, but the extent of integration varies significantly across programs.
  • The Session Integration Tool (SIT) was developed to help educators evaluate the level of integration in their teaching sessions based on three criteria: development, delivery, and outcomes.
  • Evaluation of the SIT showed it effectively distinguished varying levels of integration, received positive feedback from users, and was considered a valuable tool for enhancing medical education through peer and self-assessment.

Article Abstract

Integration in medical education is generally defined as a multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of the basic and applied sciences. In medical education, the number of integrated curricula reported has steadily increased, yet the degree of integration often varies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a tool for medical educators to assess and improve the level of trans-disciplinary integration within an individual academic session. The Session Integration Tool (SIT) is an analytic, developmental rubric that allows the user to assess session-level integration given three criteria: development, delivery, and outcomes. To evaluate the tool, participants utilized the SIT to assess two exemplar case studies, and then their own educational session. A survey was administered to assess user satisfaction along with the instrument's usefulness and impact on practice. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference between user scores of the exemplar case studies for each paired set of criteria ( < 0.000) and for total scores ( = 0.043). Users also successfully used the instrument to assess their own session. The SIT was highly rated by users in terms of satisfaction, usefulness, and impact on practice, with average scores for each category ranging from agree to strongly agree. The SIT has statistical validity in its ability to discriminate between varied levels of integration. Users found the SIT to be useful and impactful for medical education practice and believe it to support peer- and self-assessment of curricular integration. The SIT is a useful, evidence-based, theory grounded tool for assessing session-level integration.

Tumor heterogeneity remains a formidable obstacle in targeted cancer therapy, often leading to suboptimal treatment outcomes. This study presents an innovative approach that harnesses controlled inflammation to guide neutrophil-mediated drug delivery, effectively overcoming the limitations imposed by tumor heterogeneity. By inducing localized inflammation within tumors using lipopolysaccharide, it significantly amplify the recruitment of drug-laden neutrophils to tumor sites, irrespective of specific tumor markers.

Background: The present community-based study assessed the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD)/chronic kidney disease of unknown origin (CKDu) as well as anemia in some intense agricultural zones under Hirakud Command Area and evaluated their association with pesticides and heavy metal exposure.

Methods: Random cluster sampling method was used to assess the prevalence of CKD and anemia. Hematological analysis was carried out using autoanalyzer.

Preliminary Evidence for Perturbation-Based tACS-EEG Biomarkers of Gamma Activity in Alzheimer's Disease.

Int J Geriatr Psychiatry

Precision Neuroscience & Neuromodulation Program, Gordon Center for Medical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by impaired inhibitory circuitry and GABAergic dysfunction, which is associated with reduced fast brain oscillations in the gamma band (γ, 30-90 Hz) in several animal models. Investigating such activity in human patients could lead to the identification of novel biomarkers of diagnostic and prognostic value. The current study aimed to test a multimodal "Perturbation-based" transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation-Electroencephalography (tACS)-EEG protocol to detect how responses to tACS in AD patients correlate with patients' clinical phenotype.
