Characterizing Soleus Muscle Response to Targeted Plantar Nerve Modulation Using Mechanomyography.

Neuromodulation

December 2024

Sonostics, Inc, Endicott, NY, USA. Electronic address:

Objective: The human soleus muscles are essential for maintaining cardiac output during upright posture, but age and disuse lead to soleus atrophy, causing numerous health complications in older adults. Here, we investigate the influence of plantar nerve stimulation on soleus muscle activity focusing on ways exogenous stimulation technology can be optimized for the rejuvenation of the soleus muscles.

Materials And Methods: Mechanomyographic (MMG) spectra were obtained to characterize soleus dynamics in adults during quiet sitting.

Background: Physician grief, as defined by Kenneth Doka as disenfranchised grief, refers to "the grief that individuals experience when they incur a loss that is not openly acknowledged, publicly mourned, or socially supported." The individual detection of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) virions and resolution from extracellular vesicles (EVs) during analysis is a difficult challenge. Infectious enveloped virions and nonviral EVs are released simultaneously by HIV-infected host cells, in addition to hybrid viral EVs containing combinations of HIV and host components but lacking replicative ability. Complicating the issue, EVs and enveloped virions are both delimited by a lipid bilayer and share similar size and density.

Article Synopsis
  • The global sports medicine community is interested in understanding if repetitive head impacts (RHI) lead to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and its related clinical syndromes.
  • A 2022 article claimed to provide definitive proof of causality between RHI and CTE using the Bradford Hill criteria, sparking significant media attention.
  • However, the authors of this counterpoint argue that the evidence is insufficient to support those claims and stress the need for precise definitions, consistent measurements, and well-designed studies before establishing any causal links.
