Implementation of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect (DEIR) is crucial for supporting students in a culturally safe environment, reducing bias, fostering respect, broadening perspectives, enhancing collaboration, and improving education in science. DEIR with Indigenous reconciliation incorporates Indigenous-based DEIR initiatives as a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in Canada to acknowledge the intergenerational trauma and mistrust toward colonial institutions such as universities. Universities can advance reconciliation by incorporating DEIR with Indigenous reconciliation into everyday practices.

Background: The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada called upon health professional programs to teach about historical and on-going colonalism. Since these calls to action, there has been an increase in educational opportunities on the topic. Although it is generally assumed that learning about colonialism will reduce racism and improve allyship towards Indigenous Peoples, an evaluation of this assumption is needed.

Indigenous Peoples face inequities in health and healthcare access due to colonial history and systems. To work towards the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Alberta Health Services has collaborated with a Wisdom Council of engaged Elders and Indigenous community members to tailor programmes for Indigenous Peoples. The Indigenous Support Line (ISL) was created based on the Wisdom Council's advice to provide an Indigenous-specific concerns line, which later expanded into a telehealth line to address any health questions or access issues, including health system navigation and access to Western and Indigenous health and wellness supports.

This article explores the concept of transgenerational trauma. I draw from two distinct archives to approach the "transgenerational" in a more nuanced manner - one that moves beyond a linear past-to-present trajectory. The first of these is the Freudian archive, where I revisit the concept of to shed light on the temporal dynamics between past and present, particularly in the affective responses of young black students during interactions with their white peers.
