Studies in animals and humans have implicated the neurotransmitter dopamine in duration processing. However, very few studies have examined dopamine's involvement in other forms of temporal processing such as temporal order judgments. In a randomized within-subject placebo-controlled design, we used acute phenylalanine/tyrosine depletion (APTD) to reduce availability of the dopamine precursors tyrosine and phenylalanine in healthy human volunteers. As compared to a nutritionally balanced drink, APTD significantly impaired the ability to accurately reproduce interval duration in a temporal reproduction task. In addition, and confirming previous findings, the direction of error differed as a function of individual differences in underlying dopamine function. Specifically, APTD caused participants with low baseline dopamine precursor availability to overestimate the elapse of time, whereas those with high dopamine availability underestimated time. In contrast to these effects on duration processing, there were no significant effects of APTD on the accuracy of discriminating the temporal order of visual stimuli. This pattern of results does not simply represent an effect of APTD on motor, rather than perceptual, measures of timing because APTD had no effect on participants' ability to use temporal cues to speed RT. Our results demonstrate, for the first time in healthy volunteers, a dopaminergic dissociation in judging metrical (duration) versus ordinal (temporal order) aspects of time.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown success in predicting neural signals associated with narrative processing, but their approach to integrating context over large timescales differs fundamentally from that of the human brain. In this study, we show how the brain, unlike LLMs that process large text windows in parallel, integrates short-term and long-term contextual information through an incremental mechanism. Using fMRI data from 219 participants listening to spoken narratives, we first demonstrate that LLMs predict brain activity effectively only when using short contextual windows of up to a few dozen words.

As the economy enters the "new normal" and the upgrading of consumption structure enters a critical period of acceleration, under the dual background of accelerating the upgrading of consumption structure and realizing carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, it is of great significance to explore the impacts of the upgrading of consumption structure on the carbon emissions of households and the internal mechanism, so as to clarify how to promote the carbon emission reduction of households from the consumption side. This study calculates the household carbon emissions of 10 provinces and 1 municipality in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2012 to 2021 from direct and indirect perspectives. Using panel data, a fixed effect and mediating effect model is constructed to explore the mechanism of consumption structure upgrading affecting household carbon emissions.

Rehabilitation is the process of helping people regain or improve lost or impaired function due to injury, illness, or disease. To assist in tracking the progress of patients undergoing rehabilitation, this paper proposes a lightweight graph-based deep-learning model for the automatic assessment of physical rehabilitation exercises. The model takes as input the 3D skeleton sequence of a patient performing a movement and outputs a continuous quality score, as a means for patient supervision that could complement or even substitute the need for ordinary clinical exams.

This study examines the neural mechanisms behind integrating syntactic and information structures during sentence comprehension using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Focusing on Japanese sentences with canonical (SOV) and non-canonical (OSV) word orders, the study revealed distinct neural networks responsible for processing these linguistic structures. The left opercular part of the inferior frontal gyrus, left premotor area, and left posterior superior/middle temporal gyrus were primarily involved in syntactic processing.
