The objective of the study was to depolymerize alginate into short-length oligoalginates, adopting the simple solution plasma process (SPP) technique, for successful use in free radical scavenging and growth promotion in cell culture and agricultural practices. Alginate at various concentrations was depolymerized to oligoalginates using SPP by discharging for various times. The depolymerization into oligoalginates was proved by DNS, TLC, FT-IR, and HPAEC analyses and caused decrease in viscosity. Oligoalginates derived from 0.5% alginate (100 mg∙mL) showed the highest antioxidant activities in vitro. The oligoalginates enhanced growth of the human embryonic kidney (HEK293) cells to significant levels in a concentration-dependent manner without any extent of toxicity. The oligoalginates also promoted growth of lettuce. Thus, SPP is a powerful technique to break down alginate into oligoalginates that can be utilized as a free radical scavenger and as a growth promoter of animal cells and agricultural plants.

Residual antibiotics in aquatic environments pose health and ecological risks due to their persistence and resistance to biodegradation. Thus, it is crucial to develop efficient technologies for the degradation of such antibiotics. This study presents a novel approach using a nano zero-valent iron/graphitic carbon nitride (nZVI/g-CN)-enhanced dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma process for the degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP).

The rapid spread of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria has created an urgent need for new alternative antibiotic agents. Membrane disrupting antimicrobial peptides (AMPs): short amino acid sequences with bactericidal and fungicidal activity that kill pathogens by permeabilizing their plasma membrane may offer a solution for this global health crisis. Magainin 2 is an AMP secreted by the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis) that is described as a toroidal pore former membrane disrupting AMP.

This article presents the results of experimental studies on the influence of the geometry of high-voltage plasma actuator electrodes on the change in flow in the boundary layer and their influence on the change in the lift coefficient. The plasma actuator used in the described experimental studies has a completely different structure. The experimental model of the plasma actuator uses a large mesh ground electrode and different geometries of the high-voltage electrodes, namely copper solid electrodes and mesh electrodes (the use of mesh electrodes, large GND and HV is a new solution).

The prerequisite for breeding a plant to be used in phytoremediation is its high tolerance to grow normally in soil contaminated by certain heavy metals. As mechanisms of plant uptake and transport of nickel (Ni) are not fully understood, it is of significance to utilize exogenous genes for improving plant Ni tolerance. In this study, from encoding an exporter of Ni and cobalt was overexpressed constitutively in , and the performance of transgenic plants was assayed under Ni stress.

Aluminum-carbon nanotube (Al-CNT) composites represent a cutting-edge class of materials characterized by their exceptional mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties, making them highly promising for aerospace, automotive, electronics, and energy applications. This review systematically examines the impact of various fabrication methods, including conventional powder metallurgy, diffusion and reaction coupling, as well as adhesive and reaction bonding on the microstructure and performance of Al-CNT composites. The analysis emphasizes the critical role of CNT dispersion, interfacial bonding, and the formation of reinforcing phases, such as AlC and AlO, in determining the mechanical strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and thermal stability of these materials.
