Published: August 2021

Bimetallic catalysts are gaining attention due to their characteristics of promoting reactivity and selectivity in catalyzed reactions. Herein, a new catalytic -formylation of secondary amines using AuPd-FeO at room temperature is reported. Methanol was utilized as the formyl source and 1.0 atm of O gas served as an external oxidant. The bimetallic catalyst, consisting of Au and Pd, makes the reaction more efficient than that using each metal separately. In addition, the catalyst can be effectively recycled owing to the FeO support.

Biosynthesis of lactacystin as a proteasome inhibitor.

Commun Chem

January 2025

Graduate School of Engineering, Hokkaido University, N13-W8, Kita-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, 060-8628, Japan.

Lactacystin is an irreversible proteasome inhibitor isolated from Streptomyces lactacystinicus. Despite its importance for its biological activity, the biosynthesis of lactacystin remains unknown. In this study, we identified the lactacystin biosynthetic gene cluster by gene disruption and heterologous expression experiments.

Visible Light-Mediated [4+2] Annulation of Silylimines with Olefins to 1-Aminotetralins Enabled by Diradical Hydrogen Atom Transfer of C-H Bonds.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Chongqing Key Laboratory of Natural Product Synthesis and Drug Research, Innovative Drug Research Center, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chongqing University, Chongqing, 401331, P. R. China.

A facile photochemical, one-pot synthesis of highly functionalized 1-aminotetralins derivatives (>70 examples) from readily accessible o-alkyl and o-formyl aryl silylimines with olefins is described. A diradical-mediated hydrogen atom transfer (DHAT) of primary, secondary, and tertiary C(sp)-H bonds of o-alkyl arylsilylimines and C(sp)-H bonds of o-formyl arylsilylimines enabled a [4+2] annulation with olefins in excellent diastereoselectivity. This was accomplished upon irradiation at λ = 420 nm in the presence of thioxanthen-9-one (10 mol %) as the sensitizer via energy transfer.

Chlorophylls (Chls) are ubiquitous photosynthetic pigments with inherent potential to generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species. Therefore, all phototrophs and any phagotrophs that attempt to digest phototrophic cells have presumably developed mechanisms to mitigate this phototoxicity. In aquatic environments, the Chls produced by the dominant producers, microalgae, are catabolized into nonphototoxic pigments, cyclopheophorbide enols (CPEs), either by microalga-feeding protists or autonomously, particularly by those carrying secondary chloroplasts during the dismantling of their chloroplasts.

Secondary neurological impairment mediated by neuroinflammation is recognized as a crucial pathological factor in central nervous system (CNS) diseases. Currently, there exists a lack of specific therapies targeting neuroinflammation. Given that microglia constitute the primary immune cells involved in the neuroinflammatory response, a thorough comprehension of their role in CNS diseases is imperative for the development of efficacious treatments.
