Targeting high-speed, low-cost, short-reach intra-datacenter connections, we designed and tested an integrated silicon photonic circuit as a transmitter engine. This engine can be packaged into an optical transceiver module which meets the QSFP-DD Form Factor, together with other electrical/optical components. We first present the design and performance of a high-speed silicon modulator, which had a 3-dB EO bandwidth of >40 GHz and an ER of >5 dB. We then incorporated the engine onto a test board and injected a 53.125 Gbaud PAM4 signal. Clear eye patterns were observed at the receiver with TDECQ ~3 dB for all four lanes.

Automated liquid handlers are fundamental in modern life science laboratories, yet their high costs and large footprints often limit accessibility for smaller labs. This study presents an innovative approach to decentralizing a liquid handling system by converting a low-cost 3D printer into a customizable and accurate liquid handler. The Personal Automated Liquid Handler (PALH) system, costing ∼$400, incorporates a single-channel pipet, custom 3D-printed components, and open-source software for personalized workflows, allowing researchers to build and modify the system for specific experimental needs.

The decline in research for new antimicrobials, combined with the rise in bacterial resistance, has become a critical issue that is expected to worsen over time. As an alternative, health sciences have integrated materials engineering to develop new bioactive compounds through the interaction of nanoparticles with plant-derived compounds. These compounds offer advantages such as high bioavailability and low cost, exemplified by , a plant native to the Brazilian Cerrado.

The development of polymer radiative coolers with easy processing, low cost, and high inherent emissivity has significantly promoted the industrialization process of passive daytime radiative cooling. For excellent outdoor durability, however, the traditional strategy of using UV absorbers inevitably weakens the cooling performance of polymer-based coolers. The introduction of a high UV-reflective layer has been proven to be the most effective strategy to eliminate the negative effects of UV absorption and improve the durability of polymer coolers.
